Record Highs: In 2023, more than 8,800 rape incidents were reported to the Met Police, which was an average of 24 per day. Total Sexual Offences: In the 2024/25 period, 26,803 sexual offences were recorded in London, an increase from 24,334 in the previous year. Underreporting: Experts believe the true number of offences is significantly higher, as only a small fraction of sexual crimes are reported to the police.

@TheEconomist Seems more plausible that this change in public opinion is because highly visibly offences have drastically increased over recent years? Seems like the Financial Times' reporting on this is much better.
