Winter weather is expected to arrive tonight, and we’re asking all residents to prepare now. If ice, snow, or sleet develop, please stay off the roads, if you’re able, both for your safety and so crews can work to keep roadways passable. Shelby County Emergency Management & Homeland Security will operate 24/7 throughout the storm. Crews have stocked supplies in the event of utility issues, and our Roads & Bridges Department have been treating roads in unincorporated Shelby County and supporting municipalities with road supplies.

In 2025, the Aging Commissioner of the Mid-South marked 50 years of helping seniors stay healthy, independent, and age with dignity. It's also been a lifeline for caregivers. As resources grow tighter, protecting services that support older adults remains essential to strong communities.

As we wrap up the holiday season and New Year, I am reminded that in 2025 we celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the sexual assault nursing program at @respect2connect. I’m grateful to the work of the nurses and survivor advocates in Shelby County government who continue to lead and serve in this important program.

In 2026, Shelby County Government has one ask of the Tennessee General Assembly, to help build West Tennessee’s new Regional One Health. Patients, families, nurses, and doctors deserve a facility that matches the level of care they provide every day. That’s why we have made the initial investment for the rebuild and relocation, happening now, at the gateway to Downtown Memphis. State officials have the chance to secure the future of the hospital that cares for our law enforcement injured in the line of duty, the hospital that trains so many of our rural physicians, and the hospital that is here for everyone.

I’ve been across the state 6 times already and talked to thousands of folks from over 40 counties in just a matter of months. At every stop I take questions, because if you can’t face the people, you certainly can’t lead them. Hiding behind a desk in the DC swamp is not how you help Tennesseans. You have to get close to them. Hear how the policies of those in power are hurting them. Have them cry in your arms, like I have. If you are looking for a leader with a backbone and heart, I’m your girl. I’ll be in Jackson this weekend. Come look me in the eye. Ask me questions. Pleased that the Court has issued a favorable decision on our motion for a temporary injunction, enjoining the National Guard deployment in Tennessee. The injunction does not take effect immediately, and the state has a chance to seek leave to appeal. However, this is a positive step toward ensuring the rule of law applies to everyone, including everyday Tennesseans and even the Governor

Brooks, and Britney Thornton for sponsoring our Ordinance to establish limits on the use of solitary confinement in Shelby County’s Division of Corrections. The Ordinance strengthens protections for the wellbeing of both incarcerated individuals and staff while aligning local practice with recognized humanitarian standards.

With the transfer of operations to our administration, transportation to and from @ShelbyJuvenile for youth housed at YJEC resumed this week. Reinstatement of this service ensures youth get to their hearings on time, respecting their legal right to due process.
