Every year no matter the grade I’m teaching, I help students make an ornament to take home. Many people keep those their whole lives. And I always offer kids if they want to make an extra bc I also had two homes growing up. It’s little things with big impact. #elementary

@MrsAuthenticAmy I’ve provided a list of texts per individual study students who I think could challenge themselves with reading. I also math game and sometimes parent tips on upcoming math units. 🙂

What other things do you do for #parentteacher conferences beyond making copies of reports/grades?

Some less common things I do for #parentteacherconferences… 1.) Remove name tags from desks since student first and last name as well as photo are on them. #iteachthird

This topic came up today - - as a classroom teacher when leaving a sub note do you A.) say hey this is your plan time. Do whatever you need. B.) give a list of things they could do if they wanted like grade a worksheet C.) list things that must be done #edchat

Scaffolds are meant to be TEMPORARY. Otherwise, we'd still be looking at the Statue of Liberty like this... It's no different for learning. Scaffolds were meant to be used & then eventually taken down.

Ran into an unexpected difficulty today - I love to use #Epic virtual library to supplement our curriculum. Have great books on Inherited Traits. But stops working at 3pm. We have science at 3:15-3:50pm so now it won’t work😩 Downside of being a late start school. #edchat

@MrsAuthenticAmy There is a teacher I follow who does something similar. She calls it Life Skill for the week ie: writing your address. She focuses on one a week. It’s made me think a lot about my responsibilities as a teacher vs parents’.

Things I’ve added to my beginning of the year morning meetings that I didn’t do last year: -flexible seating expectation slide show with photos -how to stay organized with a desk -managing extra supplies -how use our class sink -how to sneeze -how to use a tissue #edchat

@MrsAuthenticAmy I’ve also used paper clips. I keep them in one pocket and then each time the “action” happens that I’m tracking, I move a paper clip to the other pocket. It’s easy to do 🖇️

If you don’t have one of these random clickers, I love them. It’s an easy way to track data without having to have a clipboard or let anybody else know what you’re tracking. I use a hair tie and loop it to my jeans loop. #edchat #teacherlife
