This was a difficult decision for me to make, but after taking a while to reflect, I have decided to leave this thread up for the sake of transparency and accountability. Let it be a case study showing the power of disinformation and how anyone can be manipulated by it (including me). It will be a reminder for me to be more critical of the information I see and share, and to phrase my writing as such. Deleting the thread, in my opinion, feels like a copout. I choose to carry this burden with me. I will be criticized for this (I already have), and completely understand why. Anyways I welcome all your thoughts. In my own defense, there are those who openly disseminate mis/disinformation without acknowledging the nature of their content when critiqued, choosing instead to ignore it or double down. I acknowledge that I should have done more due diligence when creating my thread, and I will move forward internalizing what I learned from this experience. Furthermore, the information in the video is genuinely fascinating and provides a unique perspective unfamiliar to many of us. Through the power of the collective community asking questions and exercising skepticism, we were able to discover the truth. And I think that's a beautiful thing—the information space is becoming increasingly clouded with unverifiable narratives and talking points. Yet, from this process, I've seen a glimmer of hope. I updated my thread with the proper corrections and pinned it on my profile last night. I am asking anyone who has retweeted my original video to either remove it from their timeline, retweet my updated tweet with corrections, and/or quote tweet what you see fit and speak your mind, whatever that may be. If you see anyone else sharing the video, feel free to let them know that it's been confirmed to be fake. If you read this far, thanks for taking your time to understand my opinion.
