Larry Walters meant to hover about a hundred feet over his backyard, tied to his Jeep with a rope. The rope snapped and carried him to 16,000 feet, into the approach path of one of the busiest airports in America. He was 33, a Long Beach truck driver. He'd wanted to fly since he was a boy, but the Air Force turned him down for poor eyesight, so he cooked in Vietnam and drove trucks after. His plan was small. Buy weather balloons, tie 42 of them to a Sears lawn chair, drift up on a tether, pop a few with a pellet gun, and float back down for sandwiches and a beer. The chair climbed at 800 feet a minute. Within minutes he was three miles up, freezing, dizzy in the thin air. Two airliners on approach radioed the tower to report a man sitting in a lawn chair at their altitude. He had packed a camera but later said the view left him too stunned to take a single picture. To come down he shot several balloons, then fumbled the pellet gun and dropped it overboard. He hung up there for about 45 minutes, dumped his water jugs to slow the fall, and finally caught his dangling cables on a Long Beach power line. The contact blacked out a neighborhood for 20 minutes. He climbed down unharmed and was arrested the moment his feet touched the ground. A reporter asked him why. He said, "A man can't just sit around." The FAA had no rule for any of this. They first charged him $4,000 across four violations, then admitted a lawn chair does not legally need an airworthiness certificate and cut the fine to $1,500. For a while he was everywhere. Letterman, the Tonight Show, a Timex ad. He quit trucking to speak for a living and could never make it pay. The fame faded, the money never came, and in 1993 he died by suicide at 44. Right after he landed, he handed the chair to a kid in the neighborhood. Twenty years later that kid gave it to the Smithsonian. The $109 lawn chair now sits in the National Air and Space Museum, parked among the fighter jets and the space capsules.

In 1982, a man tied 42 helium balloons to a lawn chair and soared to 16,000 feet. Larry Walters packed sandwiches, a pellet gun, and a dream.

@BigNonny0 Couldn’t agree more, brother. Your greatest edge comes from understanding yourself, not from copying someone else’s playbook. Master your process, stay disciplined, and let consistency do the heavy lifting.

@decentonomics Appreciate traders who take the time to share detailed analysis. Whether the bias plays out or not, the real edge is having a plan and adapting to what the market gives.

Good morning. ☀️ One of the biggest mistakes traders make is trying to copy someone else’s blueprint. What works for one trader might not work for you. Some traders thrive on Thursdays and Fridays. For me, Mondays and Tuesdays have consistently been my best trading days. That doesn’t make either approach right or wrong, it simply proves that profitability is personal. Your personality, schedule, psychology, and strategy all play a role in your edge. Stop forcing yourself to trade like everyone else. Study your data. Know your strengths. Build your own statistics. The goal isn’t to trade like the crowd. The goal is to understand what consistently works for you. Trade your edge, not someone else’s.
