@growing_daniel Roaring fireplace & the A/C blasting 68° is just how Richard Nixon liked it, a sublime combination.

I like running my AC and heater at the same time. It produces a composite temperature effect I call "wold" for warm+cold which hits different than a purebred temp. The European mind cannot comprehend the subtle pleasure of wold

@Slicinhammer For the whole weekend, everybody’s dressed up like cowboys/cowgirls. Or American Eagles, pronghorn, Smokey Bear, etc. The one time of year when Main St./US-395 isn’t noisy with semitrucks, too.

I couldn’t go this year, was working shows in Joshua Tree. But it’s always good & usually packed with people. These pictures are from the Mule Days FB page:

“Mule Days” parade in Bishop, California. World’s longest non-motorized parade. Photos of Saturday’s parade from the Inyo Register.

It says: “Here is where Worth Bagly bit the dust at the hand of W.E. KEYS, May 11, 1943.” Unrepentant! Keys always said Bagly ambushed him, over a mining claim. Erle Stanley Gardner, creator of Perry Mason, knew Bill Keys & petitioned for his early release from San Quentin.

Did the last of our monthlong series of Desert Oracle campfire stories in Joshua Tree last night, a good show to finish on. Told a story about Bill Keys’ Desert Queen Ranch. Keys killed a miner in a shootout & after his release from San Quentin, erected this stone marker:

The Anglo-Saxon surname Pratt means “cunning, wily, astute” ... polytropos, you could say. Very powerful when combined with a determination to get back home. The zeitgeist always doubles down right when everybody’s paying attention.

It’s now safe for the late adopters to say they like @spencerpratt and his common-sense politics.

@brianstelter It’s wild how Top Ten podcasters get bigger audiences with staffs a tenth this size, or smaller.

David Letterman's Ed Sullivan Theater is preserved here on Google Maps, March 2015. Incredible detail, just walk around the studio, look at the cityscape models, see backstage. maps.app.goo.gl/e3nTFNewjYo8U7…

I was in New York just before Zohran’s big win & was complaining about how nothing ever happens in LA politics, things just decay & become more byzantine. And then Los Angeles gets the inverse Zohran it deserves, Spencer Pratt. Reporters should be thrilled.

Was watching this old Steve Martin appearance on Charlie Rose & what he said about hippie comedians is very relevant to 2026: They were just yelling NIXON instead of being funny.

Both Letterman & Leno ran their Late Night/Tonight shows ’til 2014/15 on the proven Carson model that survived assassinations, Vietnam, Watergate, Iraq, etc., without ever turning into idiotic one-party propaganda that alienated most Americans. They also did *comedy.*

Don’t think of it as losing a Congressman. Think of it as gaining a podcaster.

@nypost We need to be following the lives & future conquests of the blessed children who discover these ancient swords. Where is our Plutarch to collect these stories?

@hope_pead Paul’s vision on the Road to Damascus is like Isis appearing to Lucius in the Golden Ass, a century later. And the appearance & message of Isis in that book sounds like all the Marian apparitions that followed. The Queen of Heaven, Queen of the Universe, just like in Fatima!
