@KenLayne Sally Ride wasn’t a teacher. You’re thinking Krista McAuliffe.

@Cary_Bleasdale It wasn’t actually Sally Ride’s flight, as much as I like the idea, but yes they were going to put the Big Bird actor in costume on the the Challenger.

@KenLayne To be clear, was the plan to put Carol spinny on the ship? Or literally Carol spinny in the Big Bird costume?

Wildlife crossings are *needed.* Animal-vehicle crashes injure 20,000 Americans annually & cost $8B. The LA wildlife bridge is 3 years behind schedule and $20 million over budget because it’s California NGO grift. Utah finished 6 new wildlife crossings in a single year (2020).

Wildlife bridges are good things. Proven to reduce wildlife/car collisions (1 million+ crashes & 200 human fatalities per year). Good for health of deer herds & other prey. Florida did the 1st US crossing in 1955, for black bears. Utah opened its I-15 overpass *50 years ago.*

“Slop” moved into the vocabulary so easily because it replaced “schlock,” which means the same thing, but East Coast Yiddish terms have fallen out of favor. “Slop” is very Old West / Frontier.

@KenLayne schlock and slop are not the same thing. schlock is charmingly bad while slop is barren and meaningless and devoid of soul

Thomas Robinson Carroll (of Washington, Louisiana) wrote this family history in a 1909 letter to his brother, Absalom Washington Carroll. The patriarch was 1 of 5 orphan boys, four times a widower with years of proud service under General Washington, “the father of his country.”

Some of my Irish ancestors, the Carrolls. My great-grandmother was Caledonia Carroll. She came from a long line of Carrolls who followed “Charles Carroll the Settler” to the Catholic haven of Maryland in the late 1600s. Originally from Ely O’Carroll (Co. Offaly).

@mycenaeas Got myself one of these new Ford Mavericks. Just what I wanted, a pleasure to drive so far, half the price of the F-150 XLT that I can’t afford anyway, and it gets 40mpg in town.
