Hard disagree. Dune (2021) is an absolutely phenomenal movie; one of the best introductions to a fictional universe EVER and a film that stands on its own surprisingly well considering it is a first part of two / three. All the factions are well established, all the main characters have the necessary depth and the visual storytelling is fantastic. Villeneuve and his fight coordinators managed to bring impressive action to a story whose battles often happened outside the narrative and the movie thrives as much from its spectacle as it does from its dialogues. Its atmosphere is utterly captivating and the way it incorporates the complex charaterisation, the warning of messianic figures and the religious manipulation from the novel(s) into its narrative was really clever. It is a movie that absolutely has its own distinct voice but also worked in an incredibly effective manner to set up two even better sequels.
