The interesting thing about the abuse in Purple Hibiscus is that it is hidden in plain sight. You read it the first time and you don’t see it. You just enjoy the book and Kambili’s crush on Father Amadi. And then you read it again when you’re much older and you’re shocked.

For me, it’s two things:
1. I see life as one long series of experiments. Not fixating on winning or losing - just doing things, learning and seeing what happens. So, the “audacious” things I do just feel like… things.
2. From the love at home. If I make a wrong bet and lose everything today, no matter what it is, I know I’ll pack up whatever is left of my life and go to my parents’ house: where there’s love, laughter and oha soup.

Hilda would have partnered with Chowdeck or something, to have the jollof rice delivered across Lagos, with discount on delivery. Slap the GWR + Gino + Hilda logo on the packaging, and have folks order via Glovo or Chowdeck. That thing was just executed in anyhowness.
