@TatooineSons Um no, I don't buy this at ALL. Luke was the HERO of Star Wars, start to finish. Even Mark Hamill HATES the Last Jedi and shat on it for months prior to Disney intervening and BEGGING him to stop. The Last Jedi remains the WORST Star Wars film in history.

The Last Jedi is what the middle chapter of a mythic hero’s life is supposed to look like. The young hero rises in the first act of the saga. The older hero confronts what he’s become, what he’s failed at, and what he’s willing to sacrifice in the second. That’s the structure George built the whole thing on. Rian just took it seriously instead of giving the audience the triumphant return they expected.

@TheRajGiri Raj u are EXACTLY RIGHT! I've been saying this since "binging" began & no one under age 35 understands me. This is one of the main reasons also that such FEW shows 2day have any long-term cultural impact whatsoever -- when everyone watches the entire Season 1 in 1 weekend.

I've been saying this for awhile. With the old model with a show like The Sopranos, by dropping it once a week, people can take it in discuss each episode in-depth, and the show has buzz for 13 weeks or whatever, as opposed to 2. With the binge model, you go through it so fast that you don't digest it, you watch and forget about it and it's out of your system. When you've spent months invested, it makes you look forward to the next season.
Matt Jarbo@mjarbo

Bloomberg is reporting that Netflix’s biggest shows are losing massive chunks of their audience after season one. Everyone is going to blame the binge model. They’re not entirely wrong. But the bigger problem is momentum. Network TV used to give you 20-plus episodes a year. You watched all fall, took the summer off, and came back when the new season started. The show stayed in your life. Netflix drops a giant expensive season in one weekend, everyone burns through it, talks about it for five days, and then the show disappears for two or three years. That is how you turn hits into homework. The answer is not more unscripted filler. It is not trying to invent a TV version of MrBeast. It is not flooding the app with more stuff people scroll past. Netflix just needs to get its groove back. Drop a season. Let it breathe. Give word of mouth time to work. Make the front page feel like a store worth browsing instead of the same five thumbnails being shoved in your face. Amazon figured this out with shows like THE BOYS and FALLOUT. Build the habit. Keep people coming back. Stop treating every season like a spray and pray. Netflix still knows how to make hits. It just keeps burying them before they can become franchises.

@GeorgeTakei George - stop dogging on @TheRock. Not everyone chooses to be a "division-machine" like yourself. The Rock is a common-sense-ist and if he chooses to keep his politics personal, more power to the man. I wish more people would be QUIET like him.

This deleted Revenge of the Sith scene starts off surprisingly wholesome... then reminds you it's still Order 66. 💔 Clone troopers disguise themselves as Jedi to lure Yoda and Obi-Wan into a trap. Obi-Wan immediately sees through it, telling them, "You clones make terrible Jedi." Seconds later, the ambush fails, and the two Jedi are forced to cut their way through the clones to survive. Should this deleted scene have made the final cut?

@johnpavlovitz You shilling is laughable. This is a GARBAGE film that neither men nor women like. No one hates it b/c it is a woman hero, we hate it because it's a vomit cake of a film.

The sad truth is that even in comic book spaces that should be more evolved than other media landscapes, women actors, writers, artists, and directors still have to do three times the work to get a fraction of the credit, and in an exponentially expanding virtual landscape where the lowest common denominator is courted and women are targeted, we’re going to continue to see these stories play out. Supergirl is a perfect example of how content creators have ruined the experience of anticipating and seeing a comic book movie, spewing out a steady stream of negativity, speculation, rumor-mongering, and doom forecasting. Combine that with the reality that 90 percent of these creators are dudes or women trying to draw their gaze, and a female-led superhero movie faces impossible scrutiny. Supergirl didn’t fall, at least not completely. She simply burned up in the Manosphere. johnpavlovitz.substack.com/p/supergirl-bu…

@TatooineSons NOT accurate as the majority of fans LOVED The Force Awakens. It was beloved at the time of release. The Last Jedi is the film that opened the floodgate of hate toward the Sequel Trilogy.

It feels more and more clear that the hatred at movies like Supergirl, Captain Marvel, etc isn’t about the movies. It’s about the lead character having two X chromosomes. This SHOULD be a lens through which the response to the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy is viewed.
DiscussingFilm@DiscussingFilm

Peter Safran has made a statement about ‘SUPERGIRL’ underperforming at the box office. “While ‘Supergirl’ didn’t meet our box office expectations, it’s just one component of a broader, long-term strategy at DC Studios that we remain confident in.” (Source: nytimes.com/2026/06/28/bus…)

@KyleAMathews @KentKaliber @TatooineSons Yeah, no, two terrible characters I want to forget. Tico ruined a perfect ending for Finn's character, and that cheap ass kiss. Meanwhile, Holdo overstayed her welcome, and her death is useless.

@KyleAMathews @TatooineSons Both were nothing-burgers, time-wasters, and 2 of the WORST selling Star Wars action figures of all time. Rose SA'ing Finn at the end of the film was especially bizarre. You can have those 2, I'll keep the characters that matter.

@sawyeurism Yeah if you dig hard enough you can find some rando fan who likes it --- but the numbers tell a drastically different tail. Acolyte failed so badly they cancelled Season 2 and Mandalorian is a box office BOMB. I saw no "moral grounding" in the Acolyte, just an insufferable mess

Today I met a coworker who, at 57, is a diehard Star Wars fan who loves Andor and The Acolyte because, in his words, "they have a moral grounding that Star Wars was missing". So yes, actually. Star Wars fans DO like Disney Star Wars. You just live in an echo chamber of despair.

@HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN Stop shilling, that movie was a trashcan and is failing so miserably that it's actually funny. It's a rare film in that literally NO ONE likes it --- men hate, and women viewers hate it or are not even seeing it.

I saw “Supergirl” in IMAX. It wasn’t a “superhero movie” about saving the Earth through self-sacrifice as “justice” confronts “evil.” It was a coming-of-age story about saving oneself, Kara, as she struggles with her own trauma. Structurally, it feels less like “Mad Max: Fury Road” (2015), where everyone is driven purely by survival instinct beyond notions of good and evil, and more like The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966), where heroes, villains, and scoundrels all converge.

@PaulAnleitner I can't figure you out Paul, as you seem to talk out of both sides of your mouth. One day you seem traditionalist, the next day you are defending the woke-casting of the Odyssey. Can you pick a lane? On any give day, I want to follow you and then I want to block you nxt day

Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" has already sparked fierce debate over casting choices, fidelity to the source material, etc. But I'm telling you that The Odyssey is going to CRUSH this summer. Why? I'll give you one good reason: When you look at all the nostalgia trending in culture right now, what does it mean? Nostalgia literally means "the ache for home." There's been a powerful "anti-story" in our culture for decades that has fragmented us and driven people into despair. We've seen how these "rival suitors" have caused chaos and driven people to hopelessness. We now see how inferior they are to the True King. What all of our nostalgia is really about is a deep spiritual hunger for our home to be restored. Nolan's film won't need to be perfect for this 3,000-year-old "homecoming" story to resonate with that deep spiritual hunger.

@PaulAnleitner You do understand that "wokeness" is what has destroyed Box Offices since 2015. It's become a sigh of relief when a new film is NOT woke, & just a regular fun movie like the most recent Top Gun. Go woke, go broke is an accurate mantra b/c we go to movies PURELY 4 entertainment.

We need to stop referring to good movies or art as "anti-woke." If you get stuck in the "negation trap," you keep giving power to the thing you're against by making your identity attached to it. Besides, goodness isn't a reaction against evil. Goodness was here first.

@ValdisVox @Rud_Hao Supergirl would have been far better with: (1) A better script, (2) a far better looking actress, and (3) YES skimpier clothes. Then I would go see it.

Men and women both can hate women, yes. Women too can be influenced by public opinion, I never saw captain marvel when it came out cause I kept hearing it ‘sucked’ (still haven’t gotten around to it), but also women frequently tear down other women as well. Theres a societal acceptance to women’s suffrage and expectation to keep quiet about it that is kinda what feminism is all about, bringing a voice to it. But people find it ‘cringe’ and many feel attacked as they misconstrue it with hating all men, so we will probably just argue about it for another hundred years as we edit women in skimpy clothes and erase the lines from their faces while saying it’d make the movie better if they looked like that 🤷‍♀️
