Why are Democrats opposed to Education Freedom in Kentucky? They fear parents having real power. They fear competition that forces failing schools to improve. They fear a system where families, not bureaucrats, decide what is best for children.   They tried every trick in the book to stop Education Freedom, and even tried to kill the bill through a procedural play that would have deprived Kentucky children of essential assistance. They lied when they said House Bill 1 would permit fraud, waste, and abuse. They’re all of a sudden concerned about our taxdollars going to waste, but forced votes on amendments throughout session that would grow spending and create even more avenues for fraud. The federal government already criminalizes honest services fraud. If any Scholarship Granting Organization defrauds students or denies them an opportunity, I hope the board of that SGO rots in federal prison. They claimed this is about state tax dollars. Wrong again. This is a federal tax credit. The Supreme Court has already rejected the idea that a federal tax cut is equivalent to state spending. Article VI, Clause 2 of the U.S. Constitution makes clear: when legitimate federal law and state law conflict, federal law prevails. Article I, Section 8, Clause 1 gives Congress the power to set federal tax policy. That conversation is over. President Trump signed this law on July 4, 2025. It is already the law of the land. We just have to opt in to let students receive these tax-free scholarships. They claimed they want Andy Beshear to be in charge, as if he’d ever give Kentucky families a choice. That is why we placed oversight with the Secretary of State, not the governor. The IRS form expressly authorizes state agencies to administer the program. And why not the governor? Because, simply put, due to his magnificent case of Trump Derangement Syndrome, or freedom derangement syndrome, whatever you want to call it, he won’t do it. Also, the Secretary of State is funded through fees, not general funds. Giving this to any other state agency would have cost tax dollars. We fixed that objection. Beshear has made it clear he is hostile to anyone but the super wealthy having the opportunity to send their kids to the school that best serves their interests. I urge Governor Beshear to sign HB 1 into law without delay so Kentucky families can begin benefiting immediately. Just do the right thing, and give Kentucky kids a chance to thrive. I am grateful to every member of the House and Senate who voted to move it forward, and to the many Kentuckians who have demanded greater opportunity for their children. It’s time for Andy Beshear to put Kentuckians first, instead of petty politics.

I, along with some of my colleagues have filed a bill in Kentucky to ban taxpayer-funded ‘gender transition services.’ As of right now, Kentucky taxpayers are on the hook for over half a million dollars a year funding this nonsense. This should end now.
