The management and maintainance of diplomatic properties abroad is a key role of the State Department. Took advantage of my presence in Tanzania to visit Harambee Plaza (Housing KCB Oyster Bay, Dar es Salaam) and our staff housing unit at Mikocheni area of the City to assess their condition and reflect on how to best optimize these assets.

Tanzania, Kenya Deepen Strategic Ties to Boost Trade and Regional Integration
Tanzania and Kenya have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, with leaders from both countries emphasizing deeper cooperation in trade, diplomacy, and regional development.
Speaking during high-level consultations between the two countries’ Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Tanzania’s Permanent Secretary, Amb. Dr. Samwel Shelukindo, underscored the enduring partnership anchored in shared interests and guided by structured frameworks such as the Joint Commission for Cooperation (JCC) and Joint Trade Committees (JTC).
He noted that ongoing engagements between ministries and experts have laid a strong foundation for productive outcomes, particularly in key sectors including energy, security, industry, and investment.
Kenya’s Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Dr. Abraham Korir Sing’Oei, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of further strengthening economic ties. He highlighted that bilateral trade has surpassed one billion US dollars, alongside steadily growing two-way investments between the two countries.
The meeting also addressed the removal of non-tariff barriers, with both sides committing to resolve outstanding issues by mid-2026. In this regard, plans are underway to convene a Joint Trade Committee meeting and organize a major business forum expected to bring together over 200 companies from both countries.
Discussions further touched on the upcoming State Visit of H.E. Dr. William Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya, to Tanzania, where he is expected to hold bilateral talks with his host, Her Excellency, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs Mr. Ally Gugu, and the Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Industry and Trade Mr. Aristides Mbwasi, from Tanzania’s Ministry of Industry and Trade also participated in the meeting.

I have concluded an intensive and highly successful round of bilateral engagements in Dar es Salaam with my counterpart: Amb. Dr. Samwel William Shelukindo (Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs). We were joined by Hon. Ally Senga Gugu (Permanent Secretary, Home Affairs), a representative of Amb. Waziri Salum (Permanent Secretary, Industry & Trade) and Kenya’s High Commissioner to Tanzania, Ambassador Catherine Karemu, among other senior officials of both countries.
Our joint deliberations have firmly set the stage for the upcoming State Visit by H.E. President William Ruto in May. This is a defining moment in our diplomacy, where we are aligning our political, security, and economic instruments to unlock a new era of shared prosperity between Kenya and Tanzania.
On the economic front, our trade diplomacy is delivering historic results. Bilateral trade has surged by 108% since 2017, reaching USD 920 Million, fueled by massive cross-border investments. To sustain this momentum, we have committed to using the 10th Joint Trade Committee (JTC) which Kenya will host in Mombasa next week to try and resolve the 10 remaining Non-Tariff Barriers (NTBs). We are also streamlining immigration processes, specifically addressing the USD 100 business pass and work permit hurdles, to ensure our professionals and small-scale traders benefit from the true spirit of the EAC Common Market.
Our cooperation in energy and security is equally robust. We are fast-tracking the Dar es Salaam–Mombasa Natural Gas Pipeline and the full integration of our power grids, with Kenya now facilitating electricity transmission from Ethiopia to Tanzania. Simultaneously, our Home Affairs teams are deepening intelligence sharing and joint border patrols to secure our 558km reaffirmed boundary. We also addressed sensitive consular matters with the utmost candor.
I am deeply indebted to Ambassador Shelukindo for his leadership. @ForeignOfficeKE @mfa_tanzania
