Game 2:
After an Izzie Eke basket for Fort Wayne Snider off the opening tip, the first 17 minutes was a game of runs--8 (by Hammond Central), 9 (by FWS), 5 (by HC), 7 (by FWS), 9 (by HC), & 8 (by FWS)--which comprised of all the scoring as FWS took a 26-22 lead early in the 3rd quarter. After a few exchanges of scores, FWS added a 9-0 run to extend a slim 2-pt edge to double-digits at 37-26. [Although 1 of the baskets during this stretch never made the scoreboard or scorebook apparently as it still read 35-26.] FWS went on to win 57-41 (or 55-41 according to the scoreboard). Snider picked up their pressure in the 2nd half; after holding a 3-0 margin in steals in the 1st half, they ended up with a 13-3 advantage, with a number of them in the backcourt turning directly into layups.
For Snider, jr Izzie Eke (pictured, #23-r) hit a pair of 3s & attacked the basket & boards aggressively for an 18-&-11 double-double; she scored 13 of Snider's 20 1st half points as they battled some early foul trouble. Soph Janaya Cooper (pictured, #24) was 1 of those hampered by foul issues; she came alive in the 2nd half being disruptive on the top of the press & attacking the rim aggressively to score 15 of her 16 after intermission. Soph Mackenzie Carter buried a trio of 3-pointers to add 11, all in the 2nd half.
For East Chicago Central, sr Indiah Hutchinson was dynamic off the dribble, showing great body control to hang & score or to elevate & score over defenders with her smooth left-handed pull up, as she finished with a game-high 24 points and added 7 rebounds. She also hit a perfect 8-for-8 from the FT line.
