@TimothyBCE @megha_lilly Beauty is a collateral casualty in a war on social norms in general. Beauty, Reason, family, sexual roles have all been attacked at a fundamental level. It is not a skeptical inquiry, but an intentional effort to overturn the culture, our culture.

@DamianChavezArt I sometimes lose the freshness of the sketch in the final piece. I'm working on that.

There was this deadline for a gallery groupshow several years back where I tried adding this extra piece (it probably was 3-4 pieces per artist, cant remember) & I screwed up by rushing it. Its that thing where the drawing study is better than the final work.

@DamianChavezArt I had never thought of Tomas Heart Benton as being part of Art Deco. Now I can not see how I missed it.

A clear example for the return 2 order that followed WW1 (Rappel à l'ordre) from which culminated Art Deco. The artists late nudes show the general classicising tendency: simplified, solid forms, clear edges, flat but structured design, and a cool, chic, detached view. The heavy, sculptural quality for the woman's body and the everyday intimacy (woman + cat) evoke a return towards grounded, observable reality rather than pre-war deskilled degeneracy & haphazard experimentalism.
