The Never Again Network hereby declares for the public record that we are totally and unequivocally opposed to President Adama Barrow’s decision to seek a third term in office. We also join the chorus of voices opposed to the planned media regulation laws. We are opposed to Barrow’s third-term bid because it jeopardizes the short, medium or long-term peace, security, and stability of The Gambia. We further believe that if he runs for a third term and wins, he is likely to seek a fourth, fifth, and even sixth term. In the long run, his overstaying in power will inevitably cause insecurity and strife in this country. kerrfatou.com/never-again-ne…

The National Assembly on Monday approved a motion calling for an investigation into Abubacarr M. Tambedou, the former attorney general and minister of justice, over alleged violations of the Public Finance Act, moving away from an earlier recommendation for criminal proceedings. The motion, introduced by the Majority Leader and member for Kantora, Billy G. Tunkara, would have the executive branch conduct the inquiry under the supervision of the Director of Public Prosecutions. kerrfatou.com/national-assem…

The chairperson of the National Assembly’s special committee investigating the sale and disposal of assets linked to former President Yahya Jammeh told lawmakers on Monday that a section of the panel’s report had been inadvertently omitted and formally submitted the missing portion for consideration. The additional material, the chairperson, Abdoulie Ceesay, said, contains the committee’s findings and recommendations on companies, equity holdings, and a category of items described as “additional assets.” kerrfatou.com/special-commit…

President Adama Barrow on Monday renewed a long-standing pledge to construct a bridge linking Banjul and Barra as he presided over the commissioning of a new ferry intended to ease chronic transport bottlenecks along one of the country’s busiest crossings. Speaking to residents of the North Bank Region, Mr. Barrow said the newly inaugurated vessel, named Barra, would not be the government’s final intervention. Another ferry, to be called Banjul, is expected to follow, he said, even as he reiterated plans for a permanent bridge that would ultimately replace the crossing. kerrfatou.com/president-vows…

President Adama Barrow on Monday defended his tenure, asserting that his “only crime” is being elected president, and criticized those who believe the nation’s highest office should be reserved for elites. Speaking at the commissioning of a new ferry in Barra, Mr. Barrow said his detractors assume leadership should be confined to residents of affluent areas like Pipeline and Fajara. “I know that I have done no wrongdoing to anyone. I have not killed, arrested, or harassed anyone, yet some believe only those from certain neighborhoods should hold the presidency,” he said. kerrfatou.com/president-barr…

There is a certain irony in the legal history of professional advertising. The prohibition against lawyers publicly promoting their services was never rooted in ethics. It originated from snobbery, a Victorian-era attitude inherited from the English legal tradition, where the practice of law was considered a gentleman’s calling, far too dignified to be marketed like fish at a market stall. England has long moved beyond this mindset. The Gambia has not. kerrfatou.com/the-rule-brita…

The Gambia Immigration Department said on Thursday that an armed man in military-style camouflage disrupted an operation to intercept a boat carrying suspected irregular migrants off the coast of Kartong, in what authorities described as a troubling escalation in migrant-smuggling tactics. According to the department, officers from the Tanji Immigration Border Patrol Unit, working under the Kartong Immigration Post, were carrying out an intelligence-led operation early Thursday when they approached a vessel roughly four kilometers offshore. The boat, officials said, held a large group of migrants, two outboard engines, and a man dressed in a camouflage uniform and armed with a rifle. kerrfatou.com/armed-man-inte…

President Adama Barrow on Friday reaffirmed his commitment to accelerating development across the country, telling a gathering of Muslim elders in the capital that his government would press ahead with major projects even as international advisers urge restraint. Speaking at the State House after the meeting, Mr. Barrow said recent discussions with officials from the International Monetary Fund had included advice to slow the pace of public investment. He rejected that guidance, framing rapid development as a core obligation of his administration. kerrfatou.com/barrow-meeting…
