I have a speed dating thingy after work. I packed a change of clothes, which I brought to work, but I forgot about it, until this afternoon. Eeek... I am going to need some wine for this 😅 My plan is to not go there with any expectations, but rather just have some fun

I join my voice in shock and deepest sorrow at the news of the passing of Tito Mboweni. Former Labour, Finance minister & South Africa's first post-Apartheid Central Bank Governor, Tito shaped many of the country's post-1994 economic policies. Continentally, his rigorous thought leadership and strategic vision to the #AUReforms and the #AUPeaceFund of which he was Chair, cannot be overstated. Hambe Kahle, my Brother. With our heartfelt condolences to his loved ones, the Government & people of South Africa.

Devastated today about the passing of H.E. Governor Tito Mboweni who I worked with for 6 years at the AU Peace Fund. I will miss his leadership, dedication and incredible intellect. But most of all his warmth and sense of humour. Rest in peace and thank you for your service.

@Tamara0h @JK_ZA Me too! I looked into it and it’s only available for Business Accounts. I use the scheduling function for my emails all the time and it’s a game changer. I need to type when I remember but only want it sent at a reasonable hour. Even of something in draft, I may forget to send.

@JK_ZA This is all I want from Zuckerberg! A WhatsApp scheduling function (whether it's to WhatsApp myself a reminder at a scheduled time, or to schedule messages typed up late at night to be sent in the morning).

Wouldn't it be cool if you could put a reminder on a Whatsapp message? e.g. if an action for self, to remind yourself of it in a week's time or so

For my 40th birthday, I'm doing a thread of 40 things I'm grateful for. Feel free to mute me. 1. Being here. I struggled with depression in my teens and 20s. Someimes I didn't want to be here anymore. I couldn't see a future. Grateful I'm still here and for the life I have.

But also, maybe time you all got to see a bit more of a face. Meet Amanda (Afrikaans pronunciation!), my fiance... [This being Leap Year, she did the asking a few weeks ago, and we finally got to make it official with the ring tonight!]

I have never suffered from heart burn in my life. And can only attest to what I'm feeling in my chest and throat today as heart burn. Is this life in your 40s?

@TshepiMOfficial Same as my husband. He rarely does actual work but it’s all meetings. I realised I attend maybe 1/6 of the meetings he does in a week and rest of my time I am working on research, writing reports, presentations etc.

My husband has been working from home for 6 weeks. I’ve learned that he basically gets paid to be in meetings. Speak in meetings, meet with other people about their last meeting, and have meetings to plan for the next meeting. 😬🥱😟

@Miss_Maharaj14 This is called a “zombie” when they come back from the dead after ghosting you. We aren’t in the zombie apocalypse right now, you don’t need him.

At the beginning of 2023 (or maybe it was the end of 2022), I went on a Bumble date with a guy. I thought it was a decent date, but I got ghosted after, so I did not think about it. This guy has now started messaging me & apologised for ghosting me & asked to see me again🙃🫠

@MarkSham @nicole_beguin Congrats to both of you! We are due in January 2025 with my first child at 41. Amazing to be doing this for the first time at this stage in life.

I’ve had an insanely rich life in my first 40 years, but there was one thing that always seemed to dodge me: becoming a dad 👨🏻‍🍼 Yesterday, Nicole and I sat nervously in the doctor's office before seeing with our own eyes on the scan that we are expecting a tiny human in February 2025! 🎉 🐣🍼 This has actually been one of the hardest secrets to keep. I don’t know how people do it because when I first found out Nicole was pregnant, my brain went into total meltdown mode for about a week. And here’s why: I thought I had conquered most of my subconscious demons holding me back in life. Turns out, the universe had a good laugh and decided to gift us this child despite my busted belief system. Only now do I realise I felt undeserving of kids. How insane is that? I’ve always wanted to be a dad, but as time ticked by, I started to think I missed the baby boat. Plus, I was a bit of a wild child in my 20s and early 30s and never had a single “oops” moment. After a while, I just assumed my swimmers were on permanent vacation 🤣 In April, Nicole and I were strolling down the Sea Point promenade, plotting out the next few months. Somehow, we ended up talking about kids and decided, “Eh, why not start trying now?” We both figured it’d take months, maybe years. I mean, everyone and their dog seems to struggle these days. Maybe we wouldn’t have any luck and could get back to our travel plans and just get on with our lives. As I've subsequently learnt, you shouldn't tempt the universe unless you're absolutely sure that you want the result you're teasing 🤣 So in May, we drove back to Joburg for a few weeks before flying to Zurich and started trying. I was convinced nothing would happen. Heck, I even gave up my Joburg apartment because we had a full travel itinerary planned in Europe. We landed in Zurich on the last Friday of May. Next morning, Nicole wakes me up with a positive pregnancy test on the bedside table. To show you how much I know about pregnancy tests, I had no clue what the two lines meant. It's 5am, I'm scanning her face for an answer and then it hits me: she’s pregnant. I immediately started Googling, “How accurate are these tests?” Surely, it couldn’t happen this fast. But it did, and for the next week, I was walking around with my head in the clouds. It took some serious soul-searching to get my head around it. Here we are, 12 weeks later, and we're beyond excited. I’ve had a lot of time to think about this next chapter and here’s my big revelation: Everyone hits life’s milestones at different times. There’s no right or wrong schedule. Comparison is the thief of joy. It took me 39 years and many “failed” attempts to finally meet the person I’ll build a family with. Not giving up was the best decision ever. More than anything, I am so grateful that I get to be on this journey with Nicole. The universe gave us space to live, learn, screw up, and then brought us together. What a privilege this is, and our hearts are open to all of it 💕

@TamiMagnin Great movie! I remember watching it for the first time and thinking she was so “old” etc. for this big change and when I watched it now I thought she is that she is till “young” and her life is just starting. Perspective shift!

If I couldn't bake we would starve. Yes, yes, I'm still learning to shape them properly. Also, do yourself a favour and watch Under the Tuscan Sun before it leaves Netflix. Such a good movie!

@TamiMagnin Maybe all the obvious ones are gone and they are giving us more obscure options. Or we are both feeling tired and worn down by this year and our brains aren’t tip top anymore….
