@birdingstandard Broken left little finger in two places, stumbling on stupid flooded tussock grass, looking for Hen Harrier pellets at a roost near Waterville. Man that hurt!

Conversation with a friend the other day got me thinking. What's your worst injury acquired whilst #birding? For me, It was a popped intercostal muscle. Stood up to stretch after 14 hours of seawatching annnnd *pop* . 🤕

3 of 3. Some other stand-out species from a fantastic trip, Harlequin Quail gave amazing views at Mikumi NP, Fischer’s Lovebirds, Three-banded Courser and, of course, Warthog! @tanzania @Birdquest

2 of 3. Visited Pemba island for the 4 endemics. Pemba Scop’s Owl, White-eye & Sunbird were easy enough, the Green Pigeon only gave itself up with 2 hours to go. The White-eye got voted the best of them all. Dickinson’s Kestrel & Mangrove Kingfisher also seen @birdquest @tanzania

1 of 3. Was privileged to visit Tanzania recently with @birdquest Incredible birds and wildlife, kicking off with some N TZ local endemics… Beesley’s Lark (only 70-100 individuals left in the world), Grey-breasted Spurfowl, Rufous-tailed Weaver and Taveta Weaver

More Senegal and Gambia avian goodness… some sub-Saharan specialities, Cricket Warbler and Little Grey Woodpecker, and the common but wonderful - Pearl-spotted Owlet and, my punk favourite, the charismatic Western Plantain-eater @naturetrek and Senegalese bird guide, Abdou Lo

English

Some amazing birds from a recent trip to The Gambia and Senegal. Highlight, the weird and wonderful Quail-Plover, also Sennar Penduline Tit, Long-tailed Nightjar and Golden Nightjar with @naturetrek and fantastic Senegalese bird guide, Abdou Lo

@KerrysWildside @KerryBirdNews Yep. Looks good for Great Northern Diver. Always a good record for an inland site... they are more typically found in winter in salt water shallow bays like Tralee Bay and off Inch
English

@KerryBirdNews would I be right in saying this distant and dodgy pic is of a great northern diver?
It covered a lot of ground in Lough Leane and joined another bird today.

@irishbirdimage Nice! Really though, Paul. You should probably put it back where you found it

Anthony McGeehan’s new article on Fea’s Petrel and related species/races is an eye opener. Amazing text, driven by fantastic insight, beautiful photos by the author, and an incredible map*. *Conflict of interest declaration... I did the map. tinyurl.com/y699trhf

This is the view across the valley from my house today, an overgrazed Kerry upland after heavy rain... All the topsoil and vegetation in an area the size of a football pitch has just slid off the mountain. And yes, for scale, the white dots are sheep #overgrazing
