If glass is put in the trash from the get-go, it's just going to be mixed among everything else + not have that same effect of a controlled layer of inert material minimizing the methane that trash emits from a landfill until a landfill is closed + capped at the end of its life.

These are great questions & I track with your thought process. Though here's my reasoning on why it's still beneficial to recycle glass.
On a high level, I agree that placing glass in the trash isn't "damaging". Glass isn't going to emit methane and breakdown in a landfill.

@CharDreizen You mentioned in a previous response that we have to pay to recycle glass. I also am led to believe that glass breaks and causes problems for sorting. Why even bother? What's the harm of throwing it away? It's not toxic, it's just sand.
