ChatGPT Legal has completely misread several court decisions I’ve fed it, fwiw. Not minor mistakes. Inferring opposite outcomes. For example, thinking a court upheld a penalty revocation rather than reinstating the penalty. Long way to go for consistent legal applications.

Just received a new scam call from "U.S. Customs and Border Protection." A woman with a South Asian accent named "Terrence Smith" said the U.S. Marshals were coming to get me because my phone number was found on a package with illegal substances sent from Colombia to Texas.

The simplest way to get Venezuela’s oil into the U.S. is lifting U.S. sanctions on Venezuelan oil. Since Chevron has a pass, call it the Chevron for Everyone deal.

The U.S. government has been aiming to secure agreement among the international community for exempting American companies, known as the side-by-side proposal, by the end of this year, but Estonia's opposition casts doubt on that timeline.

The country registered its opposition during a silence procedure — a feature of multilateral institutions where a proposal is treated as adopted by consensus if no country opposes it over a fixed period of time — held at the OECD.

@MattBruenig @PplPolicyProj It would be nice to see this argument supplemented by the inflation-adjusted cost of living over the same period to see whether the growth in median earnings is outpaced by spending

New piece at @PplPolicyProj. It's my entry into the "$140k is poverty" discourse and the "you used to be able to live comfortably on a single income" discourse more generally. I think I know how to make sense of it that does not require nonsense claims. peoplespolicyproject.org/2025/12/05/why…

Several justices, including Kavanaugh, questioned why the law would give the president the power to impose an embargo, but not a tariff. "It's a fundamentally different power. It's not a donut hole, it's a different kind of pastry," said Benjamin Gutman of Oregon's DOJ.

“A really key part of the context here, if not the dispositive one… is the constitutionally assigned power to Congress — the power to reach into the pockets of the American people — is just different, and it's been different since the founding,” Gorsuch said.

The revenue from Trump's tariffs is "incidental," the government's attorney is telling the Supreme Court this morning. "They are regulatory tariffs, not revenue-raising tariffs," SG John Sauer said. "This policy is by far the most effective if nobody ever pays the tariffs."
