I've spent three days in Calais & it's horrendous. People living in disgusting conditions. Our Government is spending £476m on the militarisation of the border. We must divert that money to a humanitarian response that treats people with basic dignity. thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…

Rachel Reeves Budget is the first real reset after 14 years of Conservative neglect. It ends austerity, rebuilds public services and invests in people again. After a decade of cuts and stagnation, Britain finally has a plan. Pay a bit more now. Build a fairer country tomorrow.
BBC Politics@BBCPolitics

“I wanted to have more headroom [against the fiscal rules]” Chancellor Rachel Reeves says she did not mislead people in the run-up to the Budget and that the decisions she took were to build “economic resilience” #BBCLauraK bbc.co.uk/news/live/c4g4…

It was of course the right wing gutter press that misled the public by their repeated speculation and scaremongering. Their allegations now are to distract from their open hostility towards our democratically elected government.

Scrapping the two-child cap is both anti-poverty & pro-learning. Children don’t come to school ready to learn if they live in poverty. Teachers can’t focus on teaching if they’re plugging gaps elsewhere. What goes on outside the school gates makes a big difference inside them.

The PM isn’t dangerous because he’s a zealot. He’s dangerous because he believes nothing at all. Pushed around by McSweeney in the election, now in office pushed by radical high spend backbenchers. No plan, no ideas, just riding a DLR train now hijacked by another controller.

@dizzy_thinks @TWIJJY Until the budget and OBR forecast is published everything is speculation and everything is on the table. Hold to that constant and everything that is therefore being attributed is largely froth and complaint.

Economy was in a better place shocker. And no black holes in the finances it is now being claimed… Increased headroom for market confidence cutting child poverty, more money to improve public services and support vulnerable. The scandal.
Tom Harwood@tomhfh

This is more of a scandal than most realise. The Chancellor’s tax rises on all of us weren’t for a black hole. They were for welfare. Political choices to squeeze productive people dry. She’s pretending more tax was necessary. But it’s only because she *chose* to hike spending.

Labour's Budget is for every street in Britain. 👉 Cutting energy bills 👉 Lifting children out of poverty 👉 Rebuilding public services While our opponents hide behind cheap, divisive politics, we're getting on with the job: changing Britain.

Mad how Rachel Reeves is being criticised because the economy is doing well and there’s no black hole. I guess you get used to chaos and miss it when it’s gone.

I've now heard from several people who left the UK because of exit tax rumours, and others who plan to leave because they think it will happen next time. The exit tax leaks were really unfortunate. It would be a very good idea for Ms Reeves to clearly rule out any future exit tax.
