Rule for software engineers: make your code super elegant. A lot of software engineering is bug fixes, new features, scaling up, and UI/UX changes. All of which are easier with elegant code.

Important rule for software engineers: break things down into TINY functions with descriptive names. My most successful projects have used this trick. Most code tries to do too much in a single function.

Important rule for software engineers: Name things after what they do, not where they are used! The name should describe what is in the definition. Not the code that calls the thing. This makes coding soooo much easier. Functions, CSS classes, APIs, Classes, File names, etc.

Mistakes happen. As a team, the important thing is to recognize it’s never an individuals’s fault — it’s the process, the culture, or the infra. In this case, there was a manual deploy step that should have been better automated. Our team has made a few improvements to the automation for next time, a couple more on the way.
