@BovbjergMarit @ask_aubry Perhaps more to the point is that ultrasound is just that: Sound. It's as harmless as a song. X-rays, on the other hand, are ionizing radiation, meaning that they have enough energy to strip electrons from atoms, so are both hazardous & require shielding.

@ask_aubry Too be fair, ultrasound is not currently approved by the FDA for use on fetuses. The USPSTF used to point this out, but their screening recommendation now is “ok there’s no evidence of benefit and it’s not approved but this has become standard of care so fine, go ahead” 1/
