@DanJTPitt Mass unemployment and deindustrialisation. Social conflict. Poll Tax. Slower rate of economic growth than in 1950s and 1960s. Creation of a selfish society. Rising poverty and inequality. Flogging off national assets to foreign buyers. A spectacularly destructive decade.

He hasn't been handed everything on a plate for his whole career. He's worked hard for them and taken political risks. Whatever the merits of his standing in a by-election, these briefings are appalling.

Cabinet minister on Andy Burnham in the Times: “He’s been handed everything on a plate for his whole career. He’s now angry because people won’t make way for his second coming. It’s typical Andy.”

Johnny Cash performing 'Ring of Fire' for the last time and dedicating it to his wife June Carter Cash. His wife died in May, 2003 and he died after a few months later in September. That's love you got there.

The numbers in this must be wrong. It suggests hard pressed UK taxpayers will pay £570m for one year of Erasmus?! Turing - which helps more UK students - costs little more than £100m. If the numbers are correct this is a terrible deal at a time when apparently there is no money.

🚨BREAKING: Employment Rights Bill passes in the House of Lords and will become law. This is an historic day for working people across the country, and the trade unions who represent them. Some of the watershed measures this Bill delivers: ➡️ Banning exploitative zero hours contracts ➡️ Sick pay for all from day one ➡️ Expanding paternity, parental and bereavement leave ➡️ Strengthening protections for pregnant women, whistle-blowers and victims of sexual harassment ➡️ Making flexible working the default ➡️ Repealing Tory anti-union laws Unions and workers have long campaigned for these vital rights. Finally, working people will enjoy more security, better pay and dignity at work thanks to this Bill.

‘I’ll tell you what I don’t want to see.’ ‘What’s that?’ ‘Labour in power again.’ A 1979 Conservative election broadcast, with a young couple looking for the 50p stalls at the local cinema. Quite an effective ad - building on the ‘Labour isn’t working’ poster of 1978.

I will do everything I can, working cross-party, to stop this immoral experiment going ahead. Please retweet this and spread the word. It can be stopped. It must be stopped.
GB News@GBNEWS

‘I think it is wholly unethical, immoral, and I am astonished.’ Labour MP Jonathan Hinder believes the new puberty-blocker trial on 220 children is ‘morally wrong’, and that it is a ‘shameful’ experiment. 🔓 Become a GB News Member: gbnews.com/support

#OTD 1964. Sterling Crisis as Callaghan announces $3bn defence of the pound. He tells MPs it will "give time to press forward with the Government's longer-term plans to strengthen the economy". The Times says it is "the single biggest rescue operation" for the £ in history.

According to a new study from a respected US think tank, the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), Britain’s decision to leave the EU has meant that its GDP is between 6 per cent and 8 per cent smaller than it would have been.
