@Trip_Rin Apparently everywhere has the same issue with these people. Those people often get quite angry when you call them out.

あまりゲームをしなくてただ痛車をして日本全国を旅行しているある韓国人を心から嫌悪しております。 最近のゲームのストーリーやイベントを知っているのか疑わしく、ただ交流に目がくらんでいるのが見えて正直イライラします。

@Stirghetti @G0ffThew Woah woah, a hard limit? No. I'll agree it seems an error here but there are reasons to not do it and it's not a hard limit. Like all things in film, artistry doesn't have hard rules.

@G0ffThew Dude. This feels dishonest. The 180 degrees is a hard limit so that there is a natural feeling of continuity and crossing it breaks that immediately. This is such a simple concept it's expected of students to follow. It's a massive production issue to allow.

Gonna be real, there’s an actual talent to filming yourself eating food, having it not look awkward/disgusting, and being able to do entertaining commentary at the same time. I’d wager most can’t do it. The McDonald’s CEO tried his best, but he can’t come close to the GOAT.
Oliver Jia (オリバー・ジア) tweet media

The video of the McDonald’s ceo eating the burger is completely unremarkable and people are reading bizarre subtleties into it because the internet has cooked their brains

@Gusstelier Only if you watch the same boring shounen+isekai stuff. I found the Invisible Man and His Soon To Be Wife fairly progressive tbh.

The sad part is how a lot of modern mainstream anime has this vaguely conservative, anti-leftist tone that that older works have always fought against. It's not obvious, but you can just tell which crowd the industry wants to pander the most in the last few decades.
༺ ☘︎ ༻@idkr1v

Reading showa era works is fascinating because it really exposes you to the mindset of the period, the unspoken rules about how women and men were “supposed” to act at certain ages. It makes you more aware of how much has changed… and how much hasn’t.

@ProfessorT_ @AndrewFenn45484 That's the main thing. Japanese/anime views don't align well with either the left or right of the US fully. It's absolutely bizarre to see right wing Americans claiming anime speaks directly to them; a medium which often eschews many tenets they hold dear.

@AndrewFenn45484 The messaging is often much more subtle, so it's easy to ignore if present. Plus, the Japanese left/right divide is not a 1:1 to American or European political spectrums

I'll contribute to the dogpile Anime certainly is not American, but still manages to tap into more right-wing, Western values than most film and television out of Hollywood in the modern era. You don't have to like anime, but it must be acknowledged that it is filling a void where our media has failed, even with the existence of "based" media coming out of companies like the DW That can not be ignored, certainly not when anime fans contributed to a sizeable amount of electoral pressure for this administration across the past decade. The sooner you acknowledge anime as an example of what our media *could* model, the better. That's how cultural change happens
Matt Walsh@MattWalshBlog

@rational_takez Anime is not a fundamental part of American culture and I really shouldn’t have to explain why

@LestradeMari @Wife_of_Momiji @AorunNingen @Hideo_Fufujima @ZZZAnonymously Is this what people tell you about being a furry? Because they aren't correct; you don't have to repeat them. Someone discussing something at length doesn't make them incorrect. Saying a trite phrase doesn't make you correct. Maturity is accepting when you are wrong.

@nugwisomkami Even when it comes down to artist alleys at cons it’s never anything more than whatever’s popular at the time so that artists can make back their $500+ table fee. 😒🔫

The best thing about all of this is finding other Wolf’s Rain fans in the wild. I spent so much of my childhood in wolf’s rain roleplay forums. I have such an attachment to this anime and I loveeeeeee meeting other ppl with similar feels

@WunderRiKU A big part of that change is the introduction of social media followed by it becoming so integral to people's lives. Prior to around the early-mid 00's, people went to cons to hangout and do weird nerd stuff, no one went for social media clout or to post about it.

I'm not kidding when I say every con I attended in the late 2000s would have a flash mob of 20 - 50 people doing the Hare Hare Yukai at some point. Everyone knew at least some of this dance or Motteke Sailor Fuku. And if you didn't, you could at least join in with Carameldansen or Nyan Nyan from Macross Frontier In 2024 I went to my first con since 2009 and was shocked by how completely different the atmosphere was. There were teenagers in sportswear hanging around like they were loitering at the mall. Half the floor space was taken by massive corporations advertising themselves. The community spirit- the unplanned group dancing, the impromptu photoshoots when seeing another cosplayer from your show, that all felt so distant. Meetups are super structured, everyone is there for their cosplay group. It's still really fun, but it just feels so different. I think going to OffKai and VeXpo reminded me so much of those anime cons in the 2000s. VTubers are the niche now like anime was back then. There's just enough of us to do something cool, but not so many that it's too corporate and impersonal. People have their own oshis, but there is a sense of a monoculture around the biggest VTubers, which is important in a community! It's something missing in so many elements of our society where everyone's consuming habits are influenced by tailored algorithms, but every VTuber fan has probably spent some time watching Hololive, Mousey, Zen, Mint etc. I hope our community continues to grow, but if VTubing ever reaches the heights of popularity that anime has then I know I will be looking back on these days as fondly as doing the Hare Hare Yukai with a bunch of sweaty strangers in cheap cosplay in 2008 ☺️

@Art444Star I'd note that what CS Lewis said is somewhat unrelated. The graph on is from a paper noting people further out on it ALSO care about the things further in. Lewis would say they don't care about any, they are "pretending" to care, essentially.
