tbh i don't mind when games try to be movies, it's just that they're usually bad fucking movies. shot, reverse-shot, that's it. i'm sure they exist but i've yet to see a game really take advantage of the camera being an incorporeal object in its cinematography, at the very least.

Reading Watchmen as your first superhero comic is good because it is a good book 👍 The metatextual broader genre stuff is great but it's not even the core thematic content. Nerds just latched onto that because its the only piece of cultural analysis they can glean from Watchmen

I think the problem here is trying to create this “canon” of art that has been experienced in a particular sequence, when the reality is that the anime/game/comic that got you invested in the genre is a good starting point, regardless of context or prior knowledge

so is watching evangelion as your first mecha anime the equivalent of reading watchmen as your first superhero comic
