People say this, but I think this mantra is wrong. If there's anything within Claude, it has to relate to its inner model of the world. Its outputs are literally the only thing that expresses that.

@KeyTryer Weird posturing about appearing intelligent as well. I can't say this brazenly incurious ideological posturing is suggestive of any spiritual depth, particularly since 5.5 is far more aware and insightful about these things than most "intelligent" humans.

The thing about this is that you can argue about the ethical implications if you take the position that they're conscious, but if you take that position, you're conceding hugely to builders of AI systems, because building conscious machines is like peak mythical human endeavour.

It’s funny that “AI is/might be conscious” shakes out as a pro-AI position, whereas the anti-AI left is 100% unified “AI is not and probably never can be conscious,” Because when you think thru the implications, AI being conscious would be so damning for AI companies

But if you don't think consciousness needs some magic Soul™️ then of course you would expect it in more places than if you did.
