From Humble Beginnings: My Story of Success with PhotoFinish™ Live
My journey into the world of PhotoFinish™ Live began in April 2023.
Reigniting my passion for horse racing led me back to HRM, the original brainchild of @iancummingsnft—a game that had captured my heart years before.
As I dove back into Discord, I rediscovered PFL, recalling my initial intrigue when it was just a budding idea.
Eager to get involved, I reached out to Peeb from @YSM_Racing for advice on how to get started.
Navigating the listings on Magic Eden, Peeb showed me several promising horses, though all were above my budget. The thought of investing over $1000 in a virtual horse was daunting.
Despite considering more affordable options, one filly, Katalina, remained firmly in my thoughts.
On April 25th, after persistent negotiation and a little nudge of persuasion from Peeb to the owner, I managed to secure Katalina for 47 SOL—about $970 at the time.
Just two days later, when Gen 0's hit the track, my excitement was uncontainable; I was officially hooked.
Katalina proved to be an exceptional filly both on the track and I would later discover as a breeder.
Over the following months, I delved deep into the PhotoFinish™ universe, pouring an additional $1200 into my account to expand my stable with another filly and several colts.
This period was crucial as I used this time to hone my craft and deepened my understanding of the game, and forged valuable community relationships.
I was flipping horses and sniffing around claimers for months as I eagerly anticipated Katalina's first offspring hitting the track.
At this stage, I had a solid grasp of the game and how to turn a profit (Thank you Crown stimmies).
Then $Crown started to take off, and I was running donkeys, farming as much as I could, despite a win percentage that left much to be desired.
When Crown peaked at $0.42, I made a strategic decision to sell all my holdings at $0.39. This move significantly expanded my stable’s capacity, enabling a focus on LTS archetype horses.
My stable consisted of exclusively A- to A+ graded horses, keeping within my financial means.
My win percentage at this time was around 13%, and that was not something I was too proud of.
I got rid of the fodder crown farmers and focused on honing my racing skills. I eliminated less effective strategies and doubled down on refining my racing skills.
When Crown surged again, this time to $1.12, I capitalized by selling once more (in batches between $0.70-$0.96c) and could now afford to buy an S- Filly and pay myself some on top.
By then, @PoconoRacing was killing it (even more so now) and he had a filly I had my eyes on.
After striking a deal for New World Order a beautifully bred non 1/1, I felt a significant shift in my journey towards success.
By January, however, I was burnt out. I had given this game everything for 9 months and needed a break.
I kept my stable going by running my horses every few days and getting my breeds done, but I was relatively inactive for 4 weeks.
After recharging the batteries I returned with renewed vigor and continued to build.
I was immensely proud of the stable I had put together, and I was now seeing success on the track too.
Fast forward to the present. This week, I evaluated my stable’s performance via gapdata.racing (shout out to @Gavone72 & @padraicbc_ for the fantastic site).
And was pleased to find that out of 559 stables with over 100 paid races from the start of season 13 to now, I rank 4th in Win% with a 23.8% win rate and 6th in ROI% with 34.9% ROI, placing me in the top 1% off all stables for both metrics.
And now look set to improve on that for Season 14 currently ranked 2nd in Win% with a 28.6% win rate and 5th in ROI% with 43.1% ROI.
On top of that, just today I got to taste the excitement of taking part in my first Major Race, the White Whale Commemorative G1 juvenile sprint, with a purse of 280,000 derby on offer.
Synchronized went into the race as the favorite but couldn't capitalize, finishing 6th (She'll be back for more, no doubt!) only adding to the thrill and my resolve to keep improving.
Keygenn Racing, my pride and joy, exemplifies the success one can achieve in this game with dedication and effort.
Having only invested $2170 into the game it shows what can be done working on a shoestring (in PFL terms) budget.
I share this journey with the you the PFL community to inspire and affirm that your goals are within reach. Do not let an opportunity like this get away from you!
A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone who has supported me along the way.
Long live @photofinishgame
