Matthew 6:6-13 may help: But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. “This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’

One of the things I struggle with is prayer. What is a correct prayer? Why do others have such boisterous words? Am I just being repetitive? Should they be formal prayers? I still pray but feel im lacking. I know Jesus is happy with me coming to him regardless of how I pray. I try to spend time with him everynight regardless and thats when I feel most at peace.

You're doing God's work to expose Orthobros. Keep it up! Since Orthobros demand we look into orthodoxy or else we're grifters, it's on. Dahwahbros did this with David and they got crushed. Now Orthobros are on the hook to prove their case and they'll be under the scrutiny they demanded.

Protestant women are all whores. That's why they want to make Mary a whore like them. Protestant "men" are simps, so they go along with it to avoid the fact that all the women in their lives are whores, too. Mary is sinless, prot women are bicycles, and prot men are cucks.

There is no way for any honest person to read the gospels and come away believing Mary was a perpetual virgin. 🤷🏼‍♀️

My brothers and sisters, some from Chloe’s household have informed me that there are quarrels among you. What I mean is this: One of you says, “I follow Paul”; another, “I follow Apollos”; another, “I follow Cephas”; still another, “I follow Christ.” Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul? I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius, so no one can say that you were baptized in my name. (Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I don’t remember if I baptized anyone else.) For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. ~1 Corinthians 1:11-17

"so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.” -Isaiah 55:11 God declares that His Word never returns empty and always accomplishes exactly what He sends it to do. That means the gospel is never ineffective. When it's preached, it either softens hearts and brings life to those He saves, or it hardens and leaves others without excuse. The same sun that melts wax hardens clay. God's Word succeeds every time, either as the aroma of life to those who believe or as a witness of judgment to those who reject it. It never fails and it fulfills His purpose perfectly

Hello! Something for you to seriously contemplate is what draws you to Christianity? Is it tradition? Rituals? The crowd to be with? Intellectual engagement? You don't need to follow Jesus if these worldly things are what you are drawn to. For "becoming Christian" is to realise you're a sinner who deserves to be thrown into the lake of fire, but by no action/deed of your own and only by God's love for you that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16) Jesus died for you so that you may live. By no longer desiring to sin and believing the good news that you are saved if you trust in Jesus, you'll be a born again follower of Jesus. This is the most important thing about being a follower of Jesus: why we need saving and how we are saved. Everything else you can take your time to learn as God works on making you more holy by His will. This comes after you've placed your trust in Jesus. God bless and may you "confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." (Romans 10:9)

Right that's a good reference to Isaiah and I'll need to study that more! I looked into the unique things about Peter, just to Peter and no other apostle, and found the following: * Keys of the kingdom of heaven which we've been talking about but included for completeness. * Jesus prays specifically for Peter’s faith and charges him to strengthen the others (Luke 22:31-32). * Jesus gave Peter specific tasks after the resurrection to "feed my lambs... tend my sheep... feed my sheep (John 21:15-17) Is this what you meant by unique authority to Peter? Am I on track, missing any other points, or off mark? If I got that right, I'm happy to move on to the "binding" and "loosing".

Take as much time as you need man, I know how it is! You bring up some good points, but we would say that Mathew 16 describes something deeper than “Peter was the first to preach the gospel.”Let's look at the hermeneutics of the “keys.” In Isaiah 22:20-22, the key represents an office of authority, as the king appoints a role of authority over the kingdom. “I will place on his shoulder the key of the house of David; what he opens no one can shut, what he shuts no one can open.” This is echoed in Matt 16:19. To a Jewish audience, this imagery pointed to a chief steward or prime minister under the king. Since Jesus is the Davidic king, Catholics see Peter being appointed to a real governing office in Christ’s kingdom, not merely being complimented for recognizing the Messiah. And I'm not saying that Peter is above the other apostles but that he has a unique authority among them. There's a lot here so I wanted to address the “keys” first then I'll come back and address “binding and loosing” later!

I just finished watching this "debate." My observations: - David Wood came to have a conversation about morality and orthobros aligning with Muslims against Christians. - Andrew Wilson came to win a debate. Honestly, it was a fairly fruitless discussion in terms of the topics, but it was worth seeing how these guys handled 3 hours of going back and forth. David came out looking way better, standing firm on what we know are foundational Christian truths. Andrew seemed to not be able to understand basic Christian beliefs, which was something David hammered on in the middle section. For instance, he appeared to think that "non-denominational" somehow means "I'm hiding what I actually believe." It was just really weird. Maybe he was just playing ignorant? Has Andrew ever given a steelman definition of a Protestant's view of salvation?

@Acts17David I find it hard to believe Orthodox bishops and priests would approve of what some of these Orthos are doing. Isn’t Orthodoxy supposed to emphasize humility, obedience and submission to spiritual authority rather than constant hostility and internet bloodsport?

Cleave is not telling the truth here. Surprising? Not really. I only recently became aware of him, but from what I’ve seen already, he publicly bore false witness against Radar Apologetics by accusing him of being a Judaizer who teaches that a person must keep the Mosaic law in order to be saved (see here: youtu.be/tX1HTv-Mzk4?t=…). This is completely false. Radar does NOT believe this. Mind you, all of this is in the context of a false accusation circulating about Avery, that he raided a stream where people were attacking Orthodoxy. Avery still maintains, as he always has, that he does not attack Orthodoxy, Catholicism, or Protestantism, nor does he promote attacks against them. This is also connected to another ugly and false accusation that Avery is a grifter, and that his motivation for being ecumenical is to make money. Then Cleave represents me as saying, "Andrew Wilson said a 'no no' word! Therefore he has bad fruit!" when all I did was ask if Andrew viewed the things I questioned him on as sinful, and depending on how he answered (he didn't) I would have followed up. (Simply see my post: x.com/JaiNDoC_RL/sta…) He also made the completely evil, bizarre insinuation that I am part of some group that depicts Orthodox nuns as demons and calls for their deaths. I have never been part of any such group in my life. God forbid! In fact, I have aunts who are/were nuns. So this is not only false, it is a disgustingly evil thing to attribute to someone, someone you don't even know. Why would anyone who loves and fears God speak so carelessly and make such a wicked and false accusation against another person? In regard to what AP said in the screenshot, I’m going to assume he already knows this, given the pattern of misrepresenting people, but he is portraying AP as if he currently holds to this or it represents some "group". He doesn't. He has publicly repented of it and said it was wrong. (See here: x.com/ApostateProphe…) I genuinely have zero desire to interact with this guy. I just wanted to make this post for the record. May the Lord Jesus have mercy on us all.

Hmm I see! When I go to the Greek for "Peter" and "rock", Peter is "Petros" Πέτρος which is the masculine form meaning "rock" or "stone". The word for rock was translated from the feminine form "petra" πέτρα meaning large stone/rock formation. So Peter is a small stone while the rock Jesus referred to is a different word that is a large stone/rock formation. Besides the difference in gendered words (which is significant as we know you can't be both contrary to modern culture), there is also a difference in the size of the rock in question. It makes sense that Jesus builds his believers on a large, solid foundation rather than on a small stone. This is one reason why when I read this passage, Peter is not what Jesus builds his church (gathering of believers) on. What do you think?

Firstly, sorry if I'm slow in replying as I have a lot going on outside of Twitter. But I'll come back when I can for sure! The context of verse 19 is Jesus, after saying "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah..." because Peter was the first to recognise Jesus as the Messiah prophesised in the Old Testament, giving Peter the "keys of the kingdom of heaven..." Keys open doors, or put another way, allow one to enter where it is locked/shut away. Heaven I think we both can agree on what it is, so rhetorically, how does one get into heaven? Scripture is clear that Jesus is the way the truth and the life (John 14:6); that he is "... the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved" (John 10:9). How does one come to know this? Through the gospels. And when we look at Scripture, Peter was the first to spread the gospel to the Jews and then to the gentiles, then other apostles like Paul continued to spread it. While this can be thought of as a unique leadership role to be the first to spread the gospel, Scripture doesn't say that Peter is above the other apostles (if that is what you are suggesting. I could be wrong here). In fact, Peter calls himself another one of the elders and was later rebuked by Paul for treating gentiles with partiality depending on whether they were in the presence of Jews. This shows that Peter was not above the other apostles (if I'm reading your point correctly). As for the authority of Peter, the role of being the first to spread the gospels to the Jews and gentiles, it is finished because he's already done it. Paul and the rest have carried it on to spread the gospels far and wide. I don't see where in Scripture this authority can be passed down or is passed down. Regarding the binding and loosing, it's in context to the key to heaven; Jesus; the gospel. Since Peter has already spread the gospel to everyone (Jews + non-Jews = everyone is how I arrive at this), and the apostles have spread the gospel far a wide to reach all corners of the world, so too will all around the world who believe in the gospel be bound in heaven. Happy to hear your thoughts!
