This historic shrine had over 1000 years of history.

You won't believe this, but...
When you walk into a Japanese shrine, there's a path leading to the main hall.
Don't walk down the middle.
Tourists do it all the time. They march straight up the center like it's a red carpet.
It's not.
That middle line is called seichū. It's where the gods walk. You're supposed to stay to the side.
But here's the thing nobody tells you.
The path itself is doing something to you.
See that torii gate at the start? That's the border. One step through it and you've left the regular world behind.
The gravel under your feet. The lanterns lining the path. The little bridge over a stream. None of it is decoration. The crunch of the stones is supposed to quiet your head. The bridge is a symbolic wash. The whole walk is prep.
By the time you actually reach the shrine, something's shifted. That's the whole point.
So yeah. Stay to the side.
The middle isn't yours. 🙏
