Pashtuns are not complete Iranics, unlike Tajiks, Balochs, Kurds etc. They're more of an Indo-Iranian ethnicity with half Iranic and half Indic roots. Here is an Indian historian, Abhijit Chavda, explaining how Pashtuns have Indian origins rather than Iranian origins
