Do you use your off arm correctly? I had the opportunity to work with a very talented punter the other day out of the state of Georgia. The first thing I noticed was his left hand was coming off the ball a little early, which caused the ball to drop slightly inside. He still hit some good punts, but the rhythm and consistency could have been a little better. I actually like to coach punters to keep their left hand on the ball a little longer rather than pulling it off early. When you pull it off too soon, it’s kind of like shooting one-handed threes in basketball. Can you still make them? Yes. But it’s much harder to control the ball all the way through. I like to tell guys you want your left hand to come off the ball as your left foot is coming off the ground as you’re going into your last step. This might not be a one-size-fits-all coaching point, but if it works for you, it can really help with consistency and ball control. #TLK #BeAPro #KickingCoach #Punting #Specialists
