Happy 87th birthday to Swedish author & illustrator LENA ANDERSON! :D She first hit international success with Linnea in Monet's Garden (1985) written by Christina Björk. Anderson has authored & illustrated ten books in her lifetime including the beautiful Maja's Alfabet (1984).

Happy 49th birthday to the legend RAINA TELGEMEIER! She exploded onto the kids book scene with her 2010 autobiographical hit 'Smile' which became the first in a long line of masterpieces. The comic artist has won 3 Eisner Awards, the Dwane McDuffie award, and the Inkpot Award.

A SICK DAY FOR AMOS MCGEE (2010) released 16 years ago today! It was written by Philip C. Stead and illustrated by his wife, Erin. After three years of quitting drawing, 'Amos McGee' was Erin's very first book. Her art for the story would go on to win the 2011 Caldecott Medal.

THE IMPORTANT BOOK (1949) was released 77 years ago today! An underrated work by the great Margaret Wise Brown, her resolvedly simple choice of words poetically teaches skills of observation and appreciating the little things. It was illustrated by the talented Leonard Weisgard.

'Frog and Toad' series author & illustrator ARNOLD LOBEL would have turned 93 years old today. Born May 22nd 1933, the queer artist was the recipient of the Caldecott Medal for 'Fables (1980)', two Caldecott Honors, and the Newbery Honor. He died on December 4th, 1987.
