@language_ap He happened to be found not guilty, though, in the trial, but it does stand that it does happen within the government today that people in the government have been put on trial before for their abuse of power in the government.

@language_ap Thoreau says that people choose to be governed and use the government as a tool for personal gain. However, people within the government do abuse their power. President Trump was just put on the impeachment trial for the abuse of power as president.

The first paragraph of Civil Disobedience is very, very famous. Interpret it and connect to today.

@language_ap People would want to run free without a government which would lead to anarchy among the people of the State. If some people wanted a government and some people didn’t, only some will have limited rights and rules...

Consider the right-hand column of page 216. Are Thoreau's ideas realistic?

@language_ap The railroad that Thoreau mentions is used to demonstrate the one path people have set for themselves. This is what leads people to be conformist, all following one path to the same destination. Without the railroad, people are free to go in any direction that they decide is best

Walden--Comment upon Thoreau's mention of the railroad. What point is he trying to make?

@language_ap The table was made out of an old tree that was able to yield new life in the form of a bug. This analogy helped push the point he is making about the transcendentalist ideal of the divinity of nature and how it puts the human population in awe of it.

Look at the right-hand column of page 204. Analyze what Thoreau is saying with the table and the bug. It is a very interesting analogy :)

@LorenaB82573876 @language_ap I agree. Thoreau also seems to have regrets in which he was not able to live every moment of his life to the fullest because it seemed to be that life is a lot longer than it actually is. He also may have wished he did more and experienced more during his life.

@language_ap This statement seems as if Thoreau was very sad to end his journey on that path. It really makes you consider how short life is with so much to see and do. Time, for us, is limited, and sometimes you have to make sacrifices in favor of embarking on a different path.

@language_ap In 1984, Big Brother would control what everyone would think, basically creating a bunch of robots. Without people thinking for themselves and compromising their integrity, you may end up like Parsons, who was proud of his child for turning him in due to how brainwashed he was.

@language_ap “Nothing is at last sacred but the integrity of your own mind.” (Emerson 186). Some people tend to conform with others around them to fit in. Many are willing to break their integrity and not speak their own mind so that others around them will like them.

@mikey9303 @language_ap I agree as well. With the snakehead fish contaminating the water, they are in and harming the sea life around them. It could spread to people that are also exposed to this area such as fishermen. They should be testing done on these creatures to see what damages they may cause.

@language_ap if this snakehead fish is coming from China and we are killing it, there isn’t much wrong with that. It is harming other fish and living species, and when other things come into this country from foreign places we don’t want we find a way to get rid of them.
