It's Suicide Prevention Awareness Month and I'm going to continue to Keep Showing Up for it. I lost my mom, Jill, to suicide when I was 13. I was the one to find her. She was vibrant. Her smile lit up rooms. It didn't make sense.

Thank you all so much for your prayers for my daughter, Blythe Darby. I believe she is making very good progress and seems to be surprising the hospital staff, but that is tempered by what they’ve told us about the extent of her brain injuries. We just don’t know yet where she is relative to those injuries, but are encouraged by each positive step. Yesterday she started breathing on her own and they removed all the tubes from her mouth. Please continue praying for her, even if you’re not particularly religious or prayerful. Thank you so much!

While we were gathering as family to celebrate the youngest Charlie Fischer, my brother’s wedding this weekend, we lost the oldest Charlie Fischer, my grandpa. Anyone who knew this man & knows me… Knows exactly why he’s one of my absolute favorite people to have ever graced my life. OUR lives. He had this personality that was larger than life & a brilliant mind that was often masked by his insane humor but evident in his life work, his home. I spent my summers as the youngest Fischer kid riding in the trunk of our suburban for 14 hours from Wisconsin to Upstate New York. We’d step into my grandpa’s house and get to work helping with whatever project he ideated next. My grandpa was an engineer by trade from Newark, New Jersey who could’ve been an architect. He designed and hand-crafted literal TONS of stainless steel furniture & other fixtures around his home. Spiral staircase. Chandeliers. 30-foot dinner tables to fit the whole fam. I could say a million things about this man. But the things he created will always speak to exactly who he was. And not just the “things.” He created a family that valued time spent together. His dream home on Lake George showcased his legacy in the form of a museum almost. And my favorite - he created core memories with everyone he met by cracking a joke, a smile, making you feel important. To have met him is to love him. For every quirk and goofy joke. For every bottle of Grey Goose he hoarded, and then drank, and then crossed like 50 comedic lines. The duality of his silly personality but deep soul made him one of the best life-bearing people out there. A few years back I had 5 minutes to call him on my lunch break to wish him a happy birthday before I had to rush back to work. "Jenny, it's pouring here! Holy Christmas! Let me put the phone up to the window so you can hear!" And honestly I think that was God-sent & I love that man with all my heart & he always reminded me to slow it down & be amazed & be genuine & present & care about what's infront of you because goddamn, aren't we lucky as hell to even have what's right infront of us at all? That's all l've got. And to the old man who loved to piss me off but honestly became like one of my best friends… Enjoy building the next dream house with the big guy upstairs. We’ll miss you like hell back here.
