🧠 Is Fortnite now a Damage Ratio game? 🧠 Before Day 2 on the EU broadcast I made some stats to compare Damage Ratio in Globals and Major 1 and I wanted to dig a bit deeper into that. In the blue charts, you'll see Damage Ratio plotted against tournament placement, which had moderate correlation before, but is very strongly correlated now. The Top 5 best Damage Ratio teams finished in the Top 5. Efficient fighting leads to good new surge and therefore great placements. In the green charts you'll see plots of Damage Dealt against placement. Even though surge is no longer tied to Damage Dealt, its correlation with placement has actually increased. A possible explanation is that the Globals lobby had bigger skill gaps, so some teams who were trading a lot of surge at Globals still weren't able to convert that into good endgames. So if you need a good damage ratio and good damage dealt, then what is the success formula? Good damage dealt now mostly comes from staying alive longer, which comes from fighting efficiently to stay above surge. And efficient fighting comes from good mechanics and good strategy (and some zone luck can always help). I don't think this is surprising to anyone - good mechs and good strategy have always been the foundation of Competitive Fortnite. But at least surge trading isn't a 3rd "skill" that you need any more.
