Civil Society Forum leads the charge against social evils and drug menace The Jammu Kashmir Civil Society Forum (JKCSF), in collaboration with Sharp Sight Hospital Jammu, organised a conference, focusing on strategies to root out the drug menace plaguing the region. The event was presided over by Dr. Sameer Sood, a leading eye surgeon in North India and the Founder and Director of Sharp Sight Hospital, while the Chairman of JKCSF and President of the Pensioners’ United Front, Abdul Qayoom Wani, graced the occasion as the chief guest. The conference brought together prominent educationists, scholars, doctors, and social activists, all of whom emphasized the urgent need for a unified and collective strategy to address this pressing issue. Dr. Sameer Sood, in his address, underscored the importance of being health-conscious, particularly among youth. “Sound health is the most precious asset, and health institutions have a primary duty to raise awareness about its importance,” he said. Dr. Sood urged the community to safeguard the well-being of the younger generation by steering them away from activities that could harm their physical and mental health. In his keynote speech, Abdul Qayoom Wani called for a united front against drug abuse, describing it as a “collective challenge” that demands a collective response. He highlighted the pivotal roles of teachers, doctors, religious scholars, preachers, civil society organizations, and parents in shaping a healthier and more socially responsible community. “We must realize our responsibilities as members of society to combat this menace together,” Wani asserted, warning that failure to act now could result in irreversible damage, even within our own families. Wani extended heartfelt gratitude to the administration and staff of Sharp Sight Hospital, particularly Dr. Sameer Sud, Ms Deepshikha Sharma (CEO), Dr Rampika Mahajan, Lt col Dr Abhinav Singh, Dr Neeti, Dr Poonam Sharma, Mr Tanveer Mir( RM) Mr Tawheed Shah (CM)and Mr Gaurav Ram (CM), for their collaboration and commitment to addressing this critical issue. He lauded their efforts in hosting a platform that enabled meaningful dialogue on a challenge that has shaken the foundations of society.
