@EdenLake Absolutely agree I’ll look at it at adopting a child. You’re in it for the long haul no matter how long it is and love it has equally as your children.

If you can not make a 10-20 year commitment yo an animal, but wish animal companionship, and can commit to a minimum of 6 months, then FOSTER.
Second Chance Dog Rescue@SCD_Rescue

🔴🚨🔴 PLEASE READ BEFORE APPLYING TO ADOPT A DOG 🔴🚨🔴 Adopting a dog is not a lifestyle accessory. It is not 'let’s see how it goes.' A dog is not something you return because it’s inconvenient or harder than you expected. We are sadly seeing an increase in dogs being returned for reasons that should have been fully considered before adoption: • We can’t go out as much anymore • Holidays are harder to plan • It’s more work than we thought • We’re expecting a baby None of these are unexpected outcomes of owning a dog. When you adopt, you are CHOOSING to change your life for that dog. You should not expect them to slot seamlessly into the life you already have. Dogs require: • Time • Patience • Training • Financial commitment • Emotional investment • Lifestyle adjustment They may bark. They may not sleep perfectly. They may need slow introductions. They may need ongoing support. They may struggle at first. They may have behavioural challenges. That is NORMAL. A dog is a 10–15 year commitment: Through house moves. Through job changes. Through babies. Through relationship changes. Through inconvenient phases of life. Your dog is your family. You do not rehome family because things get hard. If reducing spontaneous evenings out, planning dog-friendly holidays, arranging pet care, managing visitors, putting boundaries in place, or working consistently through challenges feels like too much for you, then now is not the right time to adopt. And that is okay. What is not okay is allowing a dog to attach, settle and trust… and then returning them because the reality required effort. Every return impacts a dog emotionally 💔 Every return sets them back 💔 Every return reduces their chances of finding a home 💔 We will always honour our responsibility and take our dogs back if needed, but adoption is meant to be forever, not until it disrupts your routine. Please think honestly and deeply before applying. We are looking for commitment. Not convenience. If you are ready to truly change your life for a dog, we will support you every step of the way. If you are not, please wait.... For the dog’s sake. 🐾🐕❤️

2 hours until I head to airport, well early, so I can finish (hopefully) an installment of a series on living and dying in the lost margins of poverty. Sitting with notes and transcripts from interviews that still take the breath from my lungs.
