Mayor of Kirklees 2025-26

The new Mayor of Kirklees had the pleasure of attending her first engagement - the finale of the @andpianofest Music Festival 2025. Cllr Liz Smaje was delighted to watch the concert featuring songs performed by professional musical theatre acts from across the North of England.

The Huddersfield War Memorial Trust invited the Mayor of Kirklees to their annual general meeting. The charity maintains the war memorial in Greenhead Park and helps provide grants to charitable organisations which provide support for ex-service personnel and the vulnerable.

Have you visited Huddersfield's latest eatery? The Mayor of Kirklees officially opened Chip Way based in King Street. The brand-new Belgian fries shop serves loaded cones with a choice of 24 sauces to slices of pizza and even footlong pizzas.

The The Lepton Village Preservation Society invited the Mayor of Kirklees for afternoon tea and to unveil their new mosaic. The group of residents work together to make the village a better place to live, work and visit.

The Mayor of Kirklees officially opened the new show home at Garrett Grove in Skelmanthorpe. Artwork inspired by the strong textile history and the former Garrett Mill which was created by Greenhead College student Frances Short is also being displayed in the new show home.

The Mayor of Kirklees attended a dinner reception marking the National Day of Pakistan. Hosted by the Consulate of Pakistan Bradford, Cllr Nosheen Dad joined other dignitaries as guests also celebrated Eid.

The licensing service of Reverend Ruth Bradley as Interim Priest in charge of St John the Evangelist Church in Birkby, took place at the weekend. The Deputy Mayor of Kirklees Cllr Liz Smaje helped welcome the Rev Ruth Bradley, along with other leaders in the community.

Young inventors demonstrated their creative and engineering skills at a technology tournament held at @huddnewcoll Organised by The Rotary Club of Holmfirth, students had to solve an interactive technology-based task and were required to design, develop and build a solution.

Working together with their Trust partner Huddersfield Community First they provided over 400 FREE Iftar meals to the local community in celebration of Ramadan.

Our communities and organisations have been coming together for special Iftar events. The Mayor of Kirklees has attended many Iftars that have been organised including those by @htafc and @Giantsrl. Cllr Nosheen Dad also helped out at a special event with @NHTSchool

The Lindley Community Choir held their annual end of season concert in aid of the @ForgetMNotChild Held at the Holy Trinity Church in Huddersfield, the Mayor of Kirklees joined guests to an evening songs and music. The hospice is the Mayor's chosen charity for her year in office.

Residents of Sykes Court, Retirement Development in Lindley have been raising funds for the @ForgetMNotChild During a visit the Mayor of Kirklees helped present a cheque to the hospice on behalf of the residents, which she has chosen to support during her year in office.

The CU3A group welcomed the Mayor of Kirklees their coffee morning and craft display. Cleckheaton University of the Third Age is a voluntary organisation which enables those who are 50+ to develop new interests and skills while taking the opportunity to make new friends.

The Young Employee Network at Kirklees Council held their annual awards. This celebration recognises talented young employees, rewarding and thanking them for their hard work and dedication. The Mayor of Kirklees had the pleasure of attending and presenting the awards.

The multimillion-pound capital investment at Huddersfield has been used to convert an existing production plant on the site into an advanced facility to manufacture the life sciences product, to be sold in more than 40 countries around the world.

Huddersfield company Syngenta welcomed the Mayor of Kirklees and other guests to the opening of its new life sciences advanced manufacturing facility. The investment is said to be a critical step in renewing the company's product portfolio and secures future skilled jobs.

The Welcome Centre and Food Bank plays a vital role supporting people in Kirklees. Staff and volunteers were kind enough to welcome the Mayor of Kirklees and talked to Cllr Nosheen Dad about what they do and how they help front line services and agencies.

It was a pleasure to join people of different faiths, all 5 West Yorks Civic Heads plus @HSWestYorkshire for a Civic Iftar at Huddersfield Town Hall and to mark #InternationalWomensDay2025 and #CommonwealthDay as well as #Ramadan
