It’s been a busy week for REAch Teach trainees and staff with a busy Intensive Training and Practice week, so this is a timely reminder to take some time to have a good rest at the weekend and at half term once it arrives!
Dr Emma Kell FCCT@thosethatcan

To my colleagues in education. Here's your annual reminder of how we're all tired at the same time (unlike in most other jobs), which can make everything feel tough. Honest communication, plenty of appreciation in every direction and kindness (to self and others) recommended.

Our East of England trainees are absorbed in all things phonics & reading ITP this week @sprites2015. They’ve been resilient, reflective practitioners using deliberate practice to improve. More learning and practice tomorrow!

It was lovely meeting & working with trainees from @REAchTeachR2 today, looking at the research behind behaviour approaches and seeing effective behaviour strategies being deployed. #FutureEducators

The East of England group had a great in-person ITP yesterday @sprites2015, focusing on how to create effective routines and challenging existing thinking about behaviour systems in schools. Looking forward to more of that enthusiasm today! 🌟

We’re grateful for some wonderful feedback from our first 2024 mentor training today: "Thank you very much for all the support we get as mentors! This new ITT programme sounds amazing and I would have loved to have trained to be a teacher through REAch Teach!"

Really excited to share a sneak peek at what we've been working on with our #itt #mentoring curriculum for September. Our mentor toolkit highlights the skills and competencies we'll be supporting mentors to develop so they can positively impact #trainee 's practice and progress

Thank you to all our staff and schools for submitting photos for National Pet Day. Pets teach children empathy and compassion. When children care for animals, they better understand their needs and emotions. Read our latest article - loom.ly/i0bdGEY

@nickpointer_ perhaps afford to focus on one small thing over a longer period of time, cannot be directly applied to trainees. This cannot therefore be the only tool of improvement used by mentors for trainee teachers, but instead, practice and rehearsal is one tool that they can use...

📣New blog: "Are we even doing deliberate practice in teacher development?" Part 2 of my series on practice: I compare how 'deliberate practice' is done in teaching vs. the original definition from the literature. Thoughts, questions, pushes all welcome! nickpointer.com/are-we-even-do…

@nickpointer_ for certain aspects that lend themselves to being rehearsed. And I agree – let’s call a spade a spade, and stop trying to fit square pegs into round holes. There are certainly elements we can grab hold of, but perhaps, in its purest sense, deliberate practice should only be used..
