I was today years old when I found out that “reasonably believing” a child was old enough to consent to sex can be used as a legal defence.
I’m shocked it isn’t absolute. The inconvenience of confirming someone’s age shouldn’t be enough to sustain this loophole.

The 27 year old man does not deny meeting up with a 13 year old boy and having sex with him (aka rape). His defence is that he thought the boy was 17, and that appears to have worked. I'm fucking lost. What is this?

So that will be voted on at some point.

In the pushback against reform, expect to hear, "Any false accusation could get us on the list!!" ...No. This definition is so strict that it will be hard for many cases of abuse to MEET this definition. Remember how few abusers even go to trial. 😡 We need Category 4. #SBC23
