For a party that "doesn't see color," Republicans sure are obsessed with eliminating Black representation in Congress. Gutting the Voting Rights Act is one of the most shameless and disgusting assaults on democracy in our time.

@emerald8805 @xm_muva I hope very much that your spouse does not betray you in the future like men who have betrayed my friends. Being a single mom and supporting yourself and your kids with limited work experience is rough. Remember that the only adult you can rely on for your future is you.

@xm_muva Oh definitely many sacrifices, most of them financial of course but even still, I would not return to my job. I never felt I was particularly good at any job and found none of them enjoyable. At home with kids is definitely where I belong. I understand many women enjoy both tho.

American women can only stay with their babies for 6 weeks before they must return to work. This policy was lobbied by Nestle so that American women are forced to buy formula and don't rely on their own breast milk to feed their babies. The American government works for corporations, not their people & until this system dismantles, people aren't going to have babies. This is just common sense.
60 Minutes@60Minutes

“We've stopped making babies. We've decided that being distracted by a dopamine hit around Candy Crush might be a good way to spend your time. Not if you're a full human," former Sen. Ben Sasse says in an extended interview. cbsn.ws/4cA1Jrp

@Variety Why do people think it's acceptable to call a coworker a b*tch at work? A lot of the backlash shows how many workplaces still normalize this kind of disrespect.

Lisa Kudrow says the "Friends" writers were "mostly men" who reprimanded the cast for forgetting lines and stayed "up late discussing their sexual fantasies" about her female co-stars: "Don't forget we were recording in front of a live audience of 400, and if you messed up one of these writers' lines or it didn't get the perfect response they could be like, 'Can’t the bitch f---ing read? She's not even trying. She f---ed up my line.'" variety.com/2026/tv/news/l…

BIG MOTHER JONES SCOOP: There are many unresolved health/environmental concerns with glyphosate (a.k.a. Roundup), but the USG keeps letting farmers, companies and public agencies spray it all over—including, as we learned, in America’s forests. motherjones.com/politics/2026/…

Hitler's Führerbunker began as a ballroom extension to a building called the Old Chancelley to which an air raid shelter was added, eventually transformed into a luxurious bunker 50 feet underground that could be hermetically sealed to protect the VIP occupants from chemical weapons. T***p's fanatic emphasis on ballroom/bunker might indicate that he anticipates, or will precipitate, a nuclear exchange of some sort, from which he, his staff, & (probably) selected billionaire donors might be protected. otherwise, it is hard to explain how important this ballroom has suddenly become. #WhenIsABallroomNotABallroom?
Joyce Carol Oates@JoyceCarolOates

the more we hear about The Mammoth Ballroom With the Mammoth Bunker Beneath the more uneasy we are feeling. why is this so important to T***p? why, right now? in the midst of a war the president has started? no other US president has ever obsessed so publicly about something so (apparently) minor which has virtually no bearing on the lives of 99.9% of Americans, will not improve anyone's life to any degree, or make much difference in US history. security is an issue anywhere the US president goes including his golf courses. unless he plans to never leave The Mammoth Ballroom With the Mammoth Bunker Beneath there will always be security issues so the literal ballroom is hardly the issue. any ideas what The Mammoth Ballroom With the Mammoth Bunker Below really entails?

Noah Hawley attended Jeff Bezos's private Campfire retreat in 2018. His wife broke her wrist. He told Bezos directly - not as complaint, just as human information from one husband and father to another. Bezos looked horrified, an aide materialized instantly, and he was whisked away. No "I'm so sorry." No "do you need anything." Just escape. Hawley's thesis in The Atlantic is not that the ultra-wealthy are evil. It is something more precise and more unsettling: that moral reasoning develops through consequences, and the environment of extreme wealth systematically removes consequences from a person's life. When you can buy your way out of any mistake, fire anyone who disagrees with you, and exist in a social circle entirely composed of people who need something from you - the basic mechanism by which humans learn that other people are real goes dark. This is different from classic narcissism, which typically masks insecurity. What Hawley is describing is something rarer: a self-definition in which the individual has genuinely grown to the size of the universe and the universe has contracted to fit. Elon Musk calling empathy "the fundamental weakness of Western civilization." Trump asked about checks on his power saying the only thing that could stop him was his own morality. Peter Thiel concluding that freedom and democracy are incompatible. These are not poses. They are the logical endpoint of a psychology shaped by years of operating in a world that never pushed back. The Bezos encounter is the piece's sharpest detail because it is so small. He was not cruel. He was not contemptuous. He simply could not locate, in that moment, the impulse to respond like a person who understood that another person's wrist hurt.

I wrote about this in my newsletter. The Weather Service didn't launch balloons recently and got surprised by tornadoes in Kansas. DOGE cuts at NWS cut out weather balloon launches which gather data for storm prediction. You are less safe because of that choice.
