On Sunday, May 24, 2026, around 22:00, a large column of FDLR fighters, reportedly backed by Wazalendo militias, carried out what is described as a premeditated assault on the villages of Malemo and Kalembe, located at the junction of Masisi and Walikale territories. In Malemo, 7 civilians were killed and 3 others seriously injured. In Kalembe, 3 more civilians were executed, 9 residents wounded, and a local chief was reportedly abducted.
