@spelunky_ Simple solution and IMO the best option is to apply cap and max salary to net pay not gross. Allows teams to essentially cover the tax bill with larger budgets that even out when accounting for tax.

maybe i’m too woke but i really think the nhl needs to do something about the unfair advantage teams in states with no income tax have.
a player making 13mill in toronto takes home less money than a player making 10mill in florida, so players will take less money

I was talking to someone at USTA about this earlier this month (after my trip to Kalamazoo, since Forbes has also locked up at least $100k), and the solution seems clear:
USTA should hold the prize money in trust until the player turns pro, however long, then remit it in full.
