@zysets Yeah, I didn't mean that as a rebuttal but addendum instead since steam is still not that mainstream for the JP crowd. So it may be perceived weirdly, if they are the under the impression westerners consider steam as a perfect solution.

@Klashikari Pirates will always exist no matter what you do, but you can mitigate piracy and limit it through means that benefits legitimate consumers who wish to buy your product

@linkasobi The topic here isn't about bad localization (there sure are out there), but the fact someone who obviously couldn't read a manga in a legal way, bitched to the mangaka about a ship, then OP complaining Mangaka shit on their fans, despite it was right to do so in this case

This is one of the issues I still have with Japanese creators, they sell their media to the West, but also just call everyone in the West pirates at a default.
This is why you get piracy, because you shit on the people supporting you, just out of pocket for no reason.

@zysets Worth noting it isn't unusual for even steam games to be pirated to the point companies still implement DRM and stuff like that. At the end of the day, there -are- people who will feel entitled to pirate anything because 'if it is available on the internet, it is free!'

@rzwv @h0pearcana Valve, the software company, saying that piracy is largely a service problem, with a large portion of potential consumers choosing the most convenient avenue, if purchasing legally is convenient, they will do so, and that's largely held to be true.

So it is much more nuanced than 'JP knows it will sell but don't care'. Market research and stuff may be flawed and the overseas management fails to make the proper decision for certain releases.

@Franix97Twitch I'd argue the problem isn't always the JP company and may be the US/EU branch instead, which means we have to be vocal about it. Simple example: Back then, NoA considered Xenoblade 1 not worth localizing, NoE did anyway and it worked. NoA relented after people hounded them.

@R31harutan 日本語ではモーラで略すのが自然になりますね。実際、ひらがなやカタカナの文字は一つのモーラなので、それより短くすることはできません
一方海外の多くの言語はアルファベットなので、モーラで略すのがかなり珍しいです。特に日本語と英語の発音が違うので違うのモーラを使用する場合もあります

@harpersealtako2 It isn't just about showing respect, but also a way to ensure creators will keep creating stuff they like, so JP usually want to encourage them, and "trampling" on their rights is a big no no in that respect.

@harpersealtako2 I have absolutely 0 authority on that matter, but as someone who has engaged with the JP community regarding art and doujinshi stuff, your analysis is pretty accurate to me. It isn't about "protect the corpos", but preserve the right of those who created stuff they love
