My 17 year old daughter will know how to find the Oscars on YT. On the rare occasion she hears about an event on a “tv network” she asks me how to find it. So I’m inclined to lean in to the audience potential rationale.

That said: Moving a declining TV event to the internet increases the potential audience for that event. But it also means it sits side-by-side with all of the internet stuff that's already pulling audience from that event...
