We’ve been thinking about carbon markets the wrong way. The theory is fine: price carbon → behaviour changes → emissions fall. But in practice? - It’s voluntary - It’s expensive It sits outside the financial system So when pressure hits, participation disappears. Meanwhile, DeFi has just grown and grown. It didn’t ask for permission. It didn’t rely on good intentions. It just… ran. ~$10T+ annual volume. Continuous. Automated. Almost none of that flow touches carbon. That mismatch is the opportunity. Carbon markets aren’t too small because the idea is wrong. They’re small because they’re disconnected from where economic activity actually happens. So the question becomes: What if carbon wasn’t a decision… but a default? That’s the idea behind the Carbon Strategy we've launched with @HydrexFi and @AzosFinance Not a new market. Not a new standard. Just a routing layer. Take existing DeFi activity → capture the flows it already produces → redirect a portion into carbon impact → Every epoch. Automatically. No opt-in once capital is deployed. No separate decision to “go green.” What this does: - Turns carbon demand into a byproduct of financial activity - Makes impact measurable and verifiable onchain - Removes reliance on voluntary participation - And crucially it aligns incentives instead of fighting them This is the part people miss.
