How long does it take rhyolite magma to make its way to the surface before eruption? Not long. Our new paper, led by Hannah Elms, shows that regardless of eruption size, magma ascent from 4-7 km depth occurs in less than a few hours. @SupervolcanoNZ link.springer.com/article/10.100…

More and more I want to add geochemical end-members of deep-sea volcanic materials to our N. Pacific aluminosilicate provenance models. There is so much interesting chemistry happening, not to mention the possibility for long distance transport.

@bellasgon 5 months!!! No one knows what they are doing by then! 2 years for my first with training from lab techs & my advisors/co-authors. At the same time I have been working on my 2nd paper that has 9 co-authors and we still haven't submitted it after 3 years! Research takes patients!
