Good to see that there is finally discourse about the extent of Israeli censorship and the degree to which damage incurred in the country is actually being concealed, so it's important to understand Israel's official OPSEC policy that is telegraphed to journalists. Israel's censorship policy originated from emergency regulations established during the British Mandate period. These laws formed the foundation for controlling media content on security grounds. The system was refined in 1989 following a Supreme Court ruling that limited the censor's interventions to cases where there is a near certainty of real harm to state security. Over time, however, this interpretation has broadened, allowing for more expansive restrictions, especially during hostilities. Before the 12-day war with Iran in June 2025, Israel had already intensified its media controls. In November 2023, it banned Al Mayadeen, and in May 2024, it banned Al Jazeera. These bans entailed the immediate closure of their Israeli offices and a full prohibition on their broadcasts and operations in Israel. This was largely done for ideological reasons but there was definitely a component of OPSEC given how video clips of Al Jazeera journalists filming damaged houses on the border with Lebanon caused an uproar. There is a Chief Censor in the Israeli military and during the war in June 2025 they updated their general guidelines for media outlets. They laid out a list of topics that must be submitted to the Censor for approval prior to their publication. Most importantly, these include: 1) order of battle, deployment of troops, troop movements, locations of military bases and compounds, along with rally points and assembly areas 2) use of civilian infrastructure by the defense establishment 3) the impact and results of hostile actions (including missile and rocket strikes), with an emphasis on military installations and national infrastructure facilities 4) location of factories, production plants, and facilities where experiments occur During the 12-day war, any broadcast near a combat or missile impact zone required written authorization from the military censor, especially in instances where the item being covered is a military bases, command posts, and energy infrastructure. There were many instances where foreign journalists were restricted from filming impact sites. In some cases, they were prevented from filming wide shots or specifying the impact location. Israel arrested journalists from the Turkish TRT and Egyptian al-Ghad TV for filming the Port of Haifa, and they also extracted some of their recordings. Recall how Jeremy Loffredo from The Greyzone was detained for filming Iranian missile impacts in the Negev. During the war they also sent a more specific communique to the chief editors of foreign press, warning that the following details must be avoided: 1) Impact sites/locations. Media must distinguish between damage to military or security sites, and filming damage around military sites isn't allowed. 2) The use of drones or fixed-position cameras to capture wide-area footage around the impact site is strictly prohibited. 3) The exact address of impact locations near security facilities in civilian areas can't be disclosed or broadcasted. 4) Can't broadcast footage of interceptor launches from air defense launchers. 5) Broadcasting footage of direct interceptions or missile/UAV impacts on buildings or the ground is prohibited. 6) Can't broadcast near air defense batteries or disclose their location. 7) Can't share any videos to these effects from social media without prior review from the censor. 8) Any violations risk prosecution. The Military Censor further elaborated, saying that any publishers reporting on the location of an impact either in the media or on the Internet, must first submit it to the Censor for permission. People violating this would be charged with the offense of violating the regulation. Before these new regulations, journalists and editors already had to gain approval from the Censor for any article that pertains to Israel's security. The Censor has the power to freeze the publication of an article if there is a near certainty that real damage will be caused to the security of the state. According to +972, the Censor blocked 1,635 articles from being published and partially restricted 6,265 in 2024. That translates to 21 interventions per day, 3 times more than during peace time. And the press is banned from mentioning whether parts of their articles were restricted. The censor can indict reporters or fine, suspend, or shut down media stations in Israel. Israel's internal security agency, Shin Bet, is tasked with monitoring leaks or exclusive videos posted on social media that can compromise operational security. Israel has not focused most of their legal wherewithal on this vector of publishing information. In the past there have been instances of Israel flagging certain content on Meta and Telegram relating to leaked documents, so I'm sure this extends to concealing footage of sensitive Israeli assets. Censorship extends to satellite imagery. With the 1997 Kyl-Bingaman Amendment prohibits US-licensed commercial satellite companies from distributing high-resolution imagery of Israel. During wartime "shutter control" can be invoked which would allow the Secretary of Commerce to order companies to pause data collection or distributions over certain areas for national security purposes. The current ground sample distance is 40cm. It took several weeks to surmise the full extent of the damage incurred during the 12-day war, including to the high-tech "campus" in Be'er Sheva, Tel Nof Airbase, Camp Moshe Dayan, and Camp Zipporit. Given that Israel is relatively small country with a high population density, especially in the center (Gush Dan) it would literally be impossible to fully restrict the flow of skyline or impact footage from regular civilians. This much is obvious based on hundreds of videos shared on Telegram, originated from Israelis on the ground or Palestinians filming from higher topography in the West Bank. So if there is no footage and no reporting on hits to key targets in or around highly-populated areas such as The Kirya (IDF HQ), Glilot Base (Mossad/Unit 8200 Base), Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, Ben Gurion International Airport, Hadera Power, or the Ashdod or Haifa Refineries. The situation is slightly different in less dense areas in Israel. Some good examples include isolated IDF radar installations and military barracks in the Lower Galilee, Golan Heights, and the West Bank. Same goes for airbases in the Negev such as Nevatim, Hatzerim, Ramon, or Ovda. But we can't apply the "god of the gaps" fallacy and necessarily assume there is damage at any of these sites simply due to the fact that we lack any information on their status, although it wouldn't surprise me.

Guys trust me, Tel Aviv is burning. I know there are hundreds of photos and videos of interceptors being launched, and no clips of smoke or large fires…. but muh censorship!!! The sad thing is, millions of people actually believe this, and call anyone who disagrees a Zionist.

@AMK_Mapping_ I think you are a little pro Russia for a war that one county is the aggressor but overall are pretty fair and report as best as you can what is happening on the battlefield. You could still report what is happening but root a little for the victim even if they end up losing.

As I do with NAFOids, I’ll be blocking Pro-Russian trolls in my comments who complain about me posting positive news for Ukraine rather than just positive news for Russia. There have been a lot of idiotic takes about me lately, and I’m getting really sick of people from both sides trying to claim I have an agenda.

@Junkmail_84 @MyLordBebo Yea its hard to heavily criticize the 20-25 year old kid who is put in a shitty predicament. Thats not what i was trying to do. This was all the fault of the Bush adminstation and policy advisors at the time not properly planning and mismanaging the whole thing from the start.

@KneelPoops @MyLordBebo I don't think they were surprised and acted the best they could. Imagine being a young man who's trade is war and this is the only job there is. Then a simple job goes to hell and a whole city is trying to kill you. The is a strategist failure not the men in the video.

@Junkmail_84 @MyLordBebo Sure i understand the justification and actions of why they were doing it. But dont understand why these types of things they did to the Iraqis, made them so willing to make the mission impossible for the Coalition. when you kick a bee hive dont be supsrised when you get stung

@Junkmail_84 @MyLordBebo Shit i could say the same thing and start doing that while driving around downtown oakland. This reckless and nonchalant attitude is how the Americans created so much resentment and animosity from the general population of Iraq and made so many more enemies for themselves.
