@PaulAmy375 @codesportsau I will never forget his three hundreds in a row for MUCC in the 95/96 premiership year. I remember the song the entire club sang one night “hey Ricci, you’re so fine”. Class player.

Had a blast catching up with Brendan Ricci. He was the ‘old bloke’ who debuted for Victoria at 30. Decades later, he's still scoring hundreds in Melbourne’s outer east. Remarkable cricketer. A feature for @codesportsau codesports.com.au/cricket/local-…

@DanielCherny My two daughters, 16 and 13, are equally shocked. The Konstas effect extends to all ages.

My 89-year-old grandmother who couldn’t draw you a cricket pitch and has never willingly watched a game of cricket in her life just asked me completely earnestly when I saw her for the first time since returning from Sri Lanka: “Why did they send Sam back?” The Konstas effect.

@PaulAmy375 MUCC 2nd XI had to forfeit v Essendon in 1996/7. @MelbUniCC 2nd XI captain Charlie Sutherland can explain the reason…

Have never seen this before at Vic District/Premier level. There will be a forfeit tomorrow, with Geelong, despite a big ring-around, unable to secure a ground for the fourths match against Richmond.

@RicFinlay Although I am not sure the Indian professional cricketer’s life expectancy is anywhere close to the overall Indian average….

@Knoxy73 I think you may be right when it comes to England - AI tells me life expectancy in England in 1965 (when they toured here) was 71.62 years, but only 70.85 in Aus. But in India, who toured the following year, it was only 45.3.

@RicFinlay Presumably it has more to do with the far higher age of English first class cricketers (Eg Darren Stevens, Eddie Hemmings, Graeme Gooch, Jimmy Anderson etc) than longer life expectancy (Aus 83 v UK 82)?

Australian stats, with its lower number of players, must more susceptible to the incursion of touring teams from countries with lower life expectancies, which may explain some of the dips.

@Knoxy73 I think it is interesting to see how it varies between individual batters. I posted it to attract comment and theories, not to attract derision.

@RicFinlay I wonder whether it is more an indication of the over rate of the opposition than anything else. More time facing spin attacks obviously helps. Hard to work out whether the batter has much to do with it.

@jimmaxcricket Jim it isn’t good enough and as President of Easts you should expect better. I won’t use as an excuse that 7 of the 11 top test players in the country are from NSW or that 23 of the 66 players playing in the last round of the Shield are from NSW. We are all over it and focused

Blame? Lack of hunger for the well paid players? Leadership? Coaching? Selection? Is CricketNSW delivering a robust, accountable management structure ? Some answers please…..
