I just can’t wrap my head around this one. MJ skipping seasons? Nike manufacturing a bullet proof legacy? Kobe ring culture. Tanking. Pop load management. Hinkie’s process. General inflation. Feels like a dozen factors drove us here. Fans in that mix but bigger than that:
Kevin Durant@KDTrey5

@RRTHEFAN @BrettSiegelNBA @NahaliZolanski Fans and media have to accept that they’ve ruined basketball discourse by diminishing the importance of the regular season. Playoffs are the most importsnt part of the year but u can’t make the playoffs without a great regular season.

Kobe Bryant's 17th season: 27.3 PPG 5.6 RPG 6.0 APG 1.4 SPG 57% TS • 8 games of 40+ points • 10 straight 30+ point games • First team All-NBA • 5th in MVP voting • 3x Player of the Week • 1x Player of the Month This was before he tore his achilles. Still one of, if not the best player in the league in year 17 🐍

@MarzTalksSports Kobe being overated is actually the most causal take for nerds who want to seem smarter than they are.

@MarzTalksSports Everyone can have their own opinion, but if all the best and smartest ppl in the game including players, coaches, GMs, announcers who have forgotten more about basketball than Nick Wright or any twitter user would know all rate kobe higher than you guys what does that say?.

In real time this was never the opinion. Theres polls of players, media, coaches,GMs,fans whoever u want overwhelmingly saying the same thing. Most people who played both say the same thing. Post Retirement most people said the same thing. 10 years later apparently its not a convo

Kobe Bryant was far and away the most overrated basketball player of all time, and has predictably become even more overrated posthumously. The fact that there’s even a debate as to who was better between Kobe and Tim Duncan proves how clueless the average basketball fan is.

@TheGOATSofball MJ did it in the 80s with higher pace and without the zone. Kobe did it in the slowest pace era while having to share the ball with shaq...

Lowry had 7 assists in the 2019 finals as the pure point guard. Kobe had 7 in the 09 finals. Kobe was always his teams best playmaker and levels above kawhi when it comes to creation.

Love Kawhi but Kobe had multiple finals runs as good in a much much tougher conference. Kawhi gets hyped for 1 run. He also shot 43% in the finals and praised while they talk down on kobes efficiency. And lowry lead the raptors in assists. Kobe always lead his team in assists.
Fullcourtpass@Fullcourtpass

Fred VanVleet reveals that Kawhi Leonard thinks his 2019 Championship put him ahead of Kobe Bryant “It was a conversation being had and the sentiment of it was when we won the championship he was like ‘I’m better than Kobe.” (h/t @NBA__Courtside)

@getit4 The MJ who started his career in the high paced 80s with no zone. Rule changes made the game much harder which is why you saw games ending with 70 points in the mid 2000s.

@Kobecomps *another preseason rule change *for the 2004-05 season. *After 2004 NBA finals when Next Jordan’s: *LeBron & Kobe, *didn’t live up to what they were billed as. *So every, Next Jordan’s, *MVP, FMVP, scoring title, *occurred under 04-05 rules, *that MJ never played under. Smh.

@getit4 Early/mid 2000s was the slowest paced era and the zone was brought in 01 what are you talking about. 70s and 80s was so much easier is just about every metric. And the talent pool was way different.

@Kobecomps *Kobe shot the most per game, FGA, & 3PA, 2001, & 2002, season, & playoffs. *It’s a rule change era *to inflate the offense of guards & small forwards *even for the slow team pace of that era. *1 MVP went to a 6 foot 3, or shorter player, before the 2000-01 season, in history
