Introducing Brian the cotton plant. Born on the 16th October at IREC he has had a cold start to life. Although only small in size above the ground he has his roots down. Look out for updates on the life of Brian! @IRECNSW @CottonResearch @CottonAustralia

Ground preparation for cotton planting is starting to come together across the Murrumbidgee Valley. Final field preparations are underway ahead of planting at the end of the month. 🤞🏻 for a warm planting window 🔥

This photo depicts simulated drift of 0.1% of label rates on Roundup Ready cotton: 2,4-D 700 amine at 1mL/Ha (left) and XtendiMax dicamba 1.17mL/Ha (right). Highlights just how damaging 2,4-D can be in comparison to dicamba. Note, this does not excuse poor application practices.

Been checking a lot of boom sprayers of new clients lately. One thing that’s caught many, inc myself is the difference bw aitti60 nozzles left and aittij60 nozzles on right. Although they look the same, only the ones on left will give a consistent vc droplet for 2,4-d.

What’s the difference between these seedlings? Fields were canola in 2022, all other management the same except for 4 months over last summer… @haydenpetty1

Black root rot is a major seedling disease on cotton in #NSW, often more concerned in southern crops due to cooler conditions during the crop establishment, but this crop is in Mungindi. Back to back for the last 3yrs, disease severity (% necrosis) increased from over 5% to this.

Winter crops haying off, cool conditions & low vigor, the cotton is starting to show effects of thrip feeding. This reduces the leaf area of the plants. Research tells us cotton can compensate well when coupled with cold temps &other factors like disease crops can really suffer

10 plants dug up in a row with variation in seedling vigour, especially the S606. The hills were well prepared with uniform depth. Struck on rain on the 4th October then irrigated post rain. Are you seeing this seedling vigour variation ?? - Carrathool NSW

“The fact that between 1885 and 1960 the Darling River dried up 45 times seems to have been conveniently lost be some media commentators.”
